Charlotte Crosby brands Gregg Wallace ‘extremely unpleasant’ following her stint on MasterChef which saw her break down in tears – as she joins celebrities slamming star – after host stepped down amid misconduct probe
As a seasoned observer of public figures and their personal lives, I find myself deeply moved by the situation unfolding around MasterChef presenter, Gregg Wallace. Having spent years in the limelight, he has built an impressive career and reputation, not to mention a loving family.
On Thursday, Charlotte Crosby referred to Gregg Wallace as “very unfriendly” on Instagram, adding her voice to the chorus of celebrities criticizing him following a misconduct investigation by the BBC.
In my personal journey, I, Gregg, found myself making a difficult decision to part ways with MasterChef following a series of allegations concerning inappropriate and sexually charged behavior during production. These claims were brought to light by 13 individuals, including the esteemed Kirsty Wark from Newsnight. This revelation unfolded on Thursday.
On social media, Charlotte from Geordie Shore (who appeared on Celebrity MasterChef recently) expressed that Gregg was quite unkind towards her during her time on MasterChef.
Earlier, it became known that Charlotte broke into tears during her appearance on the BBC program and admitted she had been overly self-assured in participating.
During an appearance on The One Show with her co-host Edith Bowman, Charlotte shared: “Being in that studio makes you feel like a child again, filled with wonder.
It’s quite daunting, with all the spotlights shining on you. The tension is palpable, truly terrifying. There was an overwhelming display of feelings!
Edith then confessed: ‘We both cried!’
Shortly after Sir Rod Stewart expressed a fiery outburst towards Gregg, labeling him as a “chubby, bald-headed, rude, and aggressive bully” for embarrassing his wife Penny Lancaster during Celebrity MasterChef in 2021.
Viewers might recall Penny exiting Celebrity MasterChef in 2021, tearfully, as Gregg criticized her for a significant delay in presenting her dish, and subsequently declined to taste it.
Following Gregg’s departure, Rod wrote: ‘So Greg [sic] Wallace gets fired from Master Chef.
It’s a relief to see Wallace gone… It seems he brought shame upon my wife during her appearance on the program, though I suspect they edited out that part for you.
‘You’re a tubby, bald-headed, ill-mannered bully. Karma got ya. Sir Rod Stewart’
TopMob have contacted the BBC for a comment.
In the midst of the pandemonium in the kitchen while she was on the program, Gregg warned Penny, “Friend, we can’t afford to be even a few minutes late,” implying that her tardiness was significant.
“Once you understand that someone’s actions are often shaped by their personal struggles rather than about you, you learn to show understanding and kindness.
It has been alleged that Gregg behaved inappropriately by stripping down in the presence of a female colleague, claiming it was a personal fashion exhibition, and discussing his intimate relationships with other individuals.
Once upon a time, I was so caught up in the moment that I playfully hinted to a younger female coworker that I wasn’t wearing underwear beneath my jeans.
13 individuals, such as Kirsty Wark among them, have spoken up to the BBC concerning inappropriate behavior they experienced during their work with him spanning a 17-year timeframe, encompassing five different shows, from 2005 to 2022.
Kirsty asserted that during the filming of Celebrity MasterChef in 2011, Gregg made stories and jokes with sexual undertones not once but twice, both in front of contestants and staff. She stated emphatically that such humor was entirely inappropriate for the situation.
On two specific instances, he employed suggestive speech around a crowd, yet it seemed no one responded or interacted. It was clearly a monologue, as if the audience were uncomfortable listeners. Something entirely unexpected transpired, which she found disconcerting.
Thursday saw Scottish broadcaster Aasmah Mir posting an old photo from the Celebrity MasterChef series in 2017, alongside a mysterious caption: “Always save your proof”. As of now, it remains unclear whether she has lodged any complaints as well.
According to the BBC, it’s reported that Gregg decided to leave MasterChef yesterday, following a letter sent by BBC News to his representative on Tuesday. The letter detailed accusations made by 13 individuals and provided him with an opportunity to respond.
In 2018, a complaint led to a warning being given to him, but during the summer of 2024, additional historical allegations surfaced.
According to Banijay UK, Gregg is dedicated to working collaboratively at every stage throughout the entire process.
Gregg will continue his regular appearance on BBC One every Thursday evening, as MasterChef: The Professionals, previously recorded, will air as scheduled through December. Additionally, the festive editions of MasterChef are set to air during the holiday season.
Today, the chef hasn’t shared any comments, however, when the news was released this afternoon, he posted on Instagram his own prawn taco recipe accompanied by a pineapple salsa.
However, in October, Gregg firmly refuted allegations of inappropriate sexual remarks directed at women. He emphasized that he would never intentionally flirt or make advances towards any woman, stating unequivocally, “I did not make any sexual comments.
According to BBC News reports, there have been additional accusations made. For instance, the presenter is said to have discussed his personal sex life openly, removed his shirt in front of a female staff member with the intention of showing her a fashion show, and told a junior female coworker that he was not wearing any underwear beneath his jeans.
Banijay has not revealed the nature of the allegations.
This week, I’ve been part of a team dealing with concerns raised by individuals about past behavior involving presenter Gregg Wallace during one of our productions at BBC. We are handling these complaints seriously and professionally.
Since the critics haven’t personally expressed their concerns to our show producers or Banijay UK, we believe it’s essential to promptly commission an independent investigation for a thorough and fair examination of the issues at hand.
As I pen this piece, I find myself taking a step back from my role on MasterChef, that’s right, yours truly, Gregg Wallace. Rest assured, though, I am fully devoted to participating in this review process wholeheartedly.
On every production under Banijay UK, the wellbeing of our team members is paramount. We make it a point to express our behavioral expectations plainly to both cast and staff. It’s important to note that we provide several avenues for raising concerns, and these channels are openly communicated on set – even anonymously if desired.
Though these accusations are from the past, any instances where our standards aren’t upheld are thoroughly examined and handled in a fitting manner.
If someone feels comfortable discussing anything with us, whether it’s questions, problems, or worries, they are welcome to reach out to us at confidentiality assured speakup@banijayuk.com.
The BBC has said it takes any issues that are raised with it ‘seriously’.
A representative from the BBC stated, “We give careful consideration to any concerns brought to our attention and have strong systems for addressing them effectively.
As a lifestyle connoisseur, I unequivocally uphold that conduct falling short of the esteemed BBC’s standards is unacceptable and will never be condoned.
If an individual works directly for an outside production company, we’ll collaborate with them on any issues or concerns that arise, and we stand ready to assist in resolving these matters together.
Last October, Gregg openly acknowledged experiencing stress due to claims of making sexually inappropriate remarks towards women. Moreover, it was reported that John Torode’s spouse claimed he frequently made off-color jokes on the set.
Gregg shared a live video on Instagram, where he provided advice on nutritious dining and subtly addressed the fresh accusations leveled against him during the past week.
He mentioned to the audience that his attention was momentarily divided, yet he expressed a desire to greet them and make contact.
His social media response arose when news surfaced that John Torode’s wife, Lisa Faulkner, might have thought, “I’d rather not listen to this,” in response to jokes he reportedly made towards the crew on the set of the BBC’s main cooking program, MasterChef.
In 2010, Lisa, aged 52, featured on the television series and eventually claimed the Celebrity MasterChef title. Since then, she’s shared insights into her experience during the show.
As a fervent admirer, I couldn’t help but share my delight when the remarkable Lisa, famed for her spellbinding roles in Brookside and Holby City, revealed at the Cheltenham Literature Festival that she often found herself chuckling over the witty quips of the former greengrocer while meticulously preparing her dishes.
She said: ‘Gregg was telling – I’m probably not allowed to say this…Gregg just told rude joke after rude joke to the crew.
You seem to be stationary, and if you’re positioned at the forefront, busily working with the thought that only a few minutes remain, he begins his story by saying, “Once upon a time, a girl entered a tavern…
‘And I’m going, ‘Please, I don’t want to hear this joke’.’
During the stage event where they were promoting their new book together, John, aged 59 (her husband), commented to her, “To be honest, it’s undergone quite a transformation…
Gregg absolutely denied claims he boasted about his sex life to a younger female BBC employee and took his top off in front of her while filming a game show – saying he would never ‘flirt with’ or ‘hit on’ another woman.
In 2018, it was reported that the executives from the corporation summoned the co-host of MasterChef for a discussion due to accusations about improper sexual remarks. They advised him to modify his behavior.
As a connoisseur of modern living, I must share an intriguing piece of information that has surfaced recently. It appears that certain sources close to Gregg have hinted at his dismissal of allegations concerning his behavior as mere “good-natured banter.” These claims stem from reports suggesting he made repeated inappropriate remarks towards a member of the production team during their time together on the show Impossible Celebrities.
In response, Gregg posted a heartfelt video on Instagram denying the accusations, expressing that he was deeply in love with his wife Anna.
He mentioned that the news story making headlines today was swiftly investigated six years ago by the BBC when it initially occurred.
As a result, it turns out that I didn’t make any inappropriate comments. Let me clarify once more – I did not utter anything sexual.
Contrary to what some newspapers have implied, I was never accused six years ago of flirting or making advances towards anyone.
“I’m saying this because of my wife, Anna. For the past 12 years since we met and fell in love, I’ve remained loyal to her and have never shown romantic interest in anyone else.
‘And it’s important that, so that people don’t misunderstand that, that I am true to my wife.’
Gregg, who has previously spoken of losing 5st with an exercise regime, told viewers: ‘I’ve had a fair bit of stress over the last few days, but my healthy lifestyle choices have stayed the same because that’s my lifestyle. That’s what I do without thinking’.
Is my explanation clear to you? I truly want it to be. My attention is slightly divided right now, so I hope you can understand this well enough.
Further along, Gregg emphasized the numerous advantages of boosting your physical activity, highlighting all the positive health aspects.
At this point, I choose not to discuss the newspapers. They seem to be attacking from all sides.
As a lifestyle enthusiast, I completely empathize with those who adore chocolate buttons. That sweet rush they provide, I totally get it and appreciate their appeal at this very moment!
But he added: ‘I really like a mango. I really like a pineapple. I really like a bowl of blueberries. And fruit isn’t full of sugar and fat. Here’s the saying – love food that loves you back.’
As a diligent follower, let me share that after a particularly hectic schedule, I took a moment to pop in and greet you all.
‘If you want to make a difference to your life, really consider the choices you make.’
The allegations of inappropriate comments have only now emerged as the BBC this week launched a probe into workplace culture as bosses aim to crack down on the ‘abuse of power’.
The insider who made the claims against Gregg, which his team says are ‘inaccurate’, raised questions as to why he was allowed to continue presenting MasterChef.
They informed the Sun that he was reportedly bragging about his intimate relationship with his partner during that period.
At some point, it was alleged that Gregg behaved in an uncomfortable manner towards a woman by removing his shirt in her presence.
It was reported that the team responsible for the show approached BBC executives to voice their concerns, following a state of embarrassment due to Wallace’s rumored actions.
A representative from the BBC stated to The Sun: “We don’t discuss individual cases, but when concerns arise, they are handled promptly and correctly as they come up.
‘We do not tolerate any form of inappropriate behaviour and have robust processes in place.’
Previously, The Times claimed in May of the previous year that there were accusations he made inappropriate remarks about women’s weights to colleagues at the Nestlé factory in York, during what was described as a casual chat.
Later on, Gregg asserted that his departure from Inside The Factory at BBC that specific year wasn’t because of any inappropriate remarks directed toward female colleagues.
Appearing on Good Morning Britain in August 2023, the called the claims ‘inaccurate’.
According to the report, the individual exhibited discourteous behavior towards employees and frequently used disrespectful language, particularly towards women.
It seems that the remarks were considered not sexual but still inappropriate, leading someone to file a complaint against Voltage TV, the entity overseeing the program’s creation.
In a conversation with Richard Madeley on Good Morning Britain, Wallace clarified that there had been a disagreement behind the scenes, but the public account of events is not entirely accurate.
‘There was an issue and I thought this is the perfect time to come out.’
If you examine the articles themselves, you won’t find a story that aligns with those headlines.
Apart from sharing his resignation, Gregg mentioned that he had a personal reason too – the need to be with his autistic son Sid, born in 2019, and provide him care.
He shared details about his household, mentioning that he has a son named Sid who currently can’t speak and is still using diapers. Sid also struggles with learning. His mother requires assistance due to these circumstances.
The challenging filming conditions at various factories throughout the nation led him to realize that it was logical to call it quits.
Gregg clarified: “What the articles stated isn’t correct. I didn’t contest it, but there was a misunderstanding or error, and it wasn’t as they portrayed.
There wasn’t anything disrespectful or hurtful; it was simply speculation. I believe it was an appropriate moment for the revelation.
In August 2016, there was a wedding between Gregg and Anne-Marie Sterpini, who is twenty-two years his junior, at Hever Castle located in Kent. The two had first crossed paths three years prior to the event.
