On Thanksgiving Day in New York, Bluey experienced a close call when he unexpectedly encountered an Australian icon during Macy’s parade.
A widely adored children’s cartoon character, well-loved across the globe and particularly in the U.S., participated in the festivities of Thanksgiving by appearing as a giant helium balloon in a parade.
Incidentally, the grand Bluey tribute balloon nearly didn’t make it to the parade as it developed a leak mere moments prior to the main event.
Overjoyed and utterly heartbroken at once, I found myself standing there, gazing upon the lifeless form of the 16-meter long balloon, crumpled into an unrecognizable heap on the ground. It was Bluey, our beloved mascot, who had inadvertently burst a hole in one of its paws, causing this unfortunate mishap. Swiftly, teams sprang into action to rectify this faux pas, a task that felt more daunting with each passing moment.
Based on reports from the New York Post, witnesses reported hearing a loud sound and then the hissing of escaping air, which indicated that the balloon was leaking air and starting to deflate.
Fortunately, the crisis was avoided as the Bluey balloon got fixed in time for its appearance at the well-attended Manhattan parade.

As a lifestyle connoisseur, I can confidently say that Bluey has captured the hearts of countless Americans this year, setting a remarkable record as the most-streamed TV series nationwide.
This year, it’s reported by Nielsen Media Research that the widely recognized ABC Kids series was viewed by American audiences for a total of 35 billion minutes.

Later, the U.S. Embassy in Australia responded to Pearson’s post with a message of congratulations for his team’s achievement.
They penned: ‘All our kids love it (and now use the word dunny)! Congratulations!’
In the United States, Disney+’s Bluey outperformed other shows such as House of the Dragon, Grey’s Anatomy, and Family Guy in a close race for viewers’ attention.
In 2023, the Australian animated series ranked as the second most popular streaming show in the U.S., trailing slightly behind the legal drama Suits.
In simpler terms, it seems that American children are adopting a distinctly Australian accent when speaking, possibly due to their fascination with the animated series “Bluey,” which revolves around an endearing Australian family of blue heelers.
The animated series gained massive popularity in the United States following its debut on Disney Channel, Disney Junior, and Disney+ in September of 2019.
In 2020, The New York Times referred to the show as “the largest Australian export since The Wiggles” – a children’s group that’s highly renowned from Australia.
The cartoon stays true to its true-blue roots and is packed with ‘g’day’ greetings and unmistakably Aussie phrases like ‘show us your thongs, muffin’.
Bluey consistently holds the leading position among shows on Australian television, breaking viewership records for both ABC and ABC iView channels.
Over 3.4 million viewers from around the world tuned in to catch the final three episodes of the globally popular series on both citywide and local television networks in April.
As a devoted follower, I’m sharing some exciting news I came across. According to TV Blackbox, the total national viewership for the penultimate episode “The Sign” encompassed audiences from all platforms, including broadcast TV. This figure stood at an impressive 4.4 million viewers!
Additionally, Bluey managed to conquer the ABC’s Iview Kids channel, accumulating an impressive 50.3 million minutes of viewing time.
