Liz Hatton, the photographer who connected with the Princess of Wales, has passed at the age at 17

As a gamer who has experienced the highs and lows of life, I can truly empathize with the family and friends of Liz Hatton. Her story is a poignant reminder of the fleeting nature of our existence and the importance of cherishing every moment we have.

It is with great sadness that we share the news: Liz Hatton, known for being invited to photograph at an October 2 investiture ceremony as a teenager, has tragically passed away at the age of 17. A passionate photographer whose work was often displayed in public exhibitions, she had dreams and aspirations within her field, as evidenced by her “photography bucket list.” Her family shared that she remained active and forward-thinking until the end, still making plans for her future.

A moment of human connection

As stated in a recent update on the Hello! magazine website, it has been approximately ten months since Liz was diagnosed with a relatively uncommon and aggressive type of cancer. During this time, she created a list of photography goals. This news was previously reported by the site, and it mentioned that Prince William extended an invitation to her following his discovery of her story through the London Air Ambulance Charity.

Following the heartwarming moment captured during the investiture ceremony, where I had the honor to serve as a guest photographer, the Prince and Princess of Wales expressed their feelings on our favorite platforms:

A pleasure to meet with Liz at Windsor today. A talented young photographer whose creativity and strength has inspired us both. Thank you for sharing your photos and story with us. W&C.

Prince William and Princess Catherine

The scene was emotional as it unfolded following Kate’s successful completion of cancer prevention therapy. Known for her keen eye for photography, especially family moments, Princess Catherine met with someone this year, one of Kate’s fewer public outings. Although she didn’t partake in the ceremony, she was present and took the chance to connect with a 16-year-old girl who shared her interest.

Vicky Roboyna, Liz’s mom, shared the heartbreaking news on X (previously known as Twitter), saying “Our remarkable daughter Liz passed away in the early hours of today…We are incredibly proud of the compassion, empathy, and bravery she displayed over the past year.” She continued by stating that “No one could have fought more valiantly for life than she did. There’s an enormous Liz-sized void in our lives that I’m unsure how we can possibly fill.” In a previous interview with Good Morning Britain, Vicky expressed that she takes pride in Liz every single day.

Beyond posting her photos online, Liz also organized a display of her photography before she passed away. We extend our deepest sympathies to everyone mourning the loss of this extraordinary young lady.
