Veteran ABC radio star confirms he has been sacked from his weekend show in ‘shock’ decision
As a long-time devotee of Simon Marnie’s soothing weekend radio voice, I am left reeling by the news of his sudden departure from ABC. With over two and a half decades spent gracefully navigating the Sydney weekend airwaves, it feels like turning off the radio on a Sunday morning will be like waking up to a world without sunshine.
Longtime radio personality Simon Marnie has publicly announced that he’s been let go from his popular weekend program after many years on the air.
On a Thursday morning, Marnie posted on Instagram about the unexpected announcement that the TV network is eliminating his hosting position for the NSW Weekend Mornings shows.
It caught Marnie’s followers off guard because he’s been associated with the national broadcaster for over two and a half decades.
On the weekends, you can find Marnie gracing the airwaves of ABC Sydney, hosting the Saturday morning show from 6 am to 12 pm and the Sunday program from 10 am to 12 pm as well. She’s a beloved figure among fans.
After a few weeks of rumors, I’m officially announcing that the ABC has reviewed their weekend structure for 2025, and they have informed me that there is no position for me within that structure.
‘This came as a shock and I am still processing what it means for me.
If it so happens that you’re in Sydney this coming Sunday, I would be absolutely delighted if you could make time to meet up with me one final time for the Weekend Show Christmas Picnic Outdoor Broadcast at Jazz @ The House situated within the premises of Government House.
‘Please come along. Sunday 1st Dec 10 – midday the broadcast. Jazz at the House all day.’
Daily Mail Australia has contacted ABC for comment.
