As a seasoned gamer with a soft spot for gripping TV dramas, I can hardly contain my excitement at the news of Paapa Essiedu’s new lead role in BBC’s upcoming series, “Babies.” Having binge-watched his captivating performance as Alex in “Gangs of London,” I’ve come to appreciate his acting prowess.

Gangs of London star Paapa Essiedu has landed his next lead TV role.

The performer is set to headline a fresh BBC series titled “Babies“, which was revealed by the network on November 27. This production is penned by Stefan Golaszewski, renowned for his work on “Marriage“.

Essiedu co-leads the drama with Bodkin star Siobhán Cullen, playing Lisa and Stephen.

The ensemble features Charlotte Riley from “Peaky Blinders” and Jack Bannon known for his work in “Pennyworth” and “Endeavour”, all set to bring a heartwarming and poignant story to life.

The official synopsis states that Lisa (Cullen) and Stephen (Essiedu) are grappling with the heart-wrenching experience of miscarriage, amidst the ongoing flow of daily life.

Though they’ve encountered difficult periods marked by sorrow and isolation, they’re navigating these tough times fueled by a fiery optimism, laughter, and affection. In doing so, they’re discovering the resilience of their bond, which will ultimately forge an unbreakable connection between them.

Filming on the drama is currently underway on location in London.

In a recent statement, screenwriter and director Golaszewski, who is helming the film Babies, showered high praise on the four exceptional actors. He expressed that their genuine warmth, meticulous attention to detail, and deep humanity are indispensable in bringing this seldom-told story to life.

Recently, I’ve found myself gracing the silver screen alongside the talented Saoirse Ronan in “The Outrun”, a movie adaptation of Amy Liptrot’s 2016 memoir. As a gamer, it feels surreal to step into another world, this time as a cast member!

Viewers can anticipate seeing Essiedu on television screens shortly, as he stars in the upcoming London-based espionage series “Black Doves“, which premieres on Netflix alongside Keira Knightley and Sarah Lancashire from “Happy Valley” on December 5.

The streaming service has renewed Black Doves for a second season even before its first season premiere, which is quite unusual.

There is currently no release date for Babies.
