This Week in Star Wars Comics: Echoing fears and the Occlusion Zone
As a seasoned Star Wars gamer with memories of the original trilogy etched into my mind, I’ve been thrilled to see the continued expansion of this universe through comics. November’s offerings have not disappointed! The return of Doctor Aphra and Luke Skywalker, the ongoing Battle of Jakku, and the debut of Alyssa Wong in The High Republic Adventures are just a few highlights that have kept me enthralled.
November whizzed by! As we wrap up this month, we’re releasing a bunch of individual issues and introducing a fresh trade paperback. Let’s get started straight away!
This Week in Star Wars Comics has The High Republic, the next entry of The Battle of Jakku, and a great gift for Darth Vader fans.
Doctor Aphra reappears and joins forces with Luke Skywalker once more to combat a band of Force-wielding dark side practitioners who are collaborating with the lingering Imperial factions. Meanwhile, it’s worth noting that the remnants of the Empire persist in their aggressive attacks against the New Republic.
The second installment of “Battle of Jakku – Republic Under Siege,” penned by Alex Segura, features illustrations by Stefano Raffaele. The cover art is a collaborative effort between Taurin Clarke and Davide Paratore.
As a devoted fan, I’m thrilled to share that Alyssa Wong is stepping into the spotlight of The High Republic Adventures, introducing one of their fascinating characters – Ruu, a former Jedi padawan turned rogue vigilante. This intriguing figure has now joined Crash Ongwa’s security squad, with a mission to track down the malevolent Nihil, The Warden. The Warden possesses a Republic droid harboring crucial data about the ongoing battle against the Nihil, and it’s up to Ruu to recover this vital information.
Title number 2 of “The High Republic Adventures: Messages from the Occlusion Zone” is penned by author Wong, features illustrations by Valeria “Lux” Favoccia, and boasts artwork on its cover by Jake Bartok.
Apologies, but I can hardly contain my excitement! One of my beloved Star Wars: High Republic characters is back – Cohmac Vitus. He’s simply magnificent, and I can’t help but admire his striking hairstyle.
Vitus, the former Master, has returned to assist his ex-Padawan, now Jedi Knight Reath Silas, in investigating the Echo Stones, a potent artifact imbued with the Force. Accompanying them is Padawan Amadeo Azzazzo. Together, they delve into the past of a missing Jedi while searching for solutions to disarm the Nihil’s terrifying weapons, which feed off the Force.
In simpler terms, “The High Republic – Echoes of Fear #3” is penned by George Mann, with Giorgia Sposito handling the illustrations, and Eduardo Mello responsible for the cover art.
The one trade out this week is the Darth Vader Modern Era Epic Collection: Shadows and Secrets, part of the Epic Comics collection from Marvel Comics. This compiles Darth Vader (2015) #1-12 plus the annual. It’s a perfect gift for any Darth Vader fan, out just in time for the holidays.
For the month of November, that concludes our coverage. In the next installment, we’ll begin wrapping up the year 2024 with a fresh edition of “This Week in Star Wars Comics.
