As a devoted fan who has followed The Tower since its inception, I must admit that the news of its cancellation after three seasons left me feeling like a kid who had their favorite toy snatched away just as they were about to play with it.
ITV series The Tower has been axed after three seasons.
Back in 2021, I found myself captivated by a gripping police drama, inspired by the Metropolitan book series penned by the talented Kate London. This thrilling show made its debut then, and just recently in September of this very year, it returned for its third season!
The broadcaster has officially announced that there won’t be a fourth season for the show.

The audience who witnessed the drama adored “The Tower,” but unfortunately, the viewership for the final season didn’t meet expectations. As a result, it’s with regret that we can’t renew it, as communicated to Metro by our representative.
The announcement follows actress Gemma Whelan, known for her role as DS Sarah Collins, expressing eagerness in August about the possibility of returning for additional episodes.
She informed The Mirror, “Absolutely! Everyone seems incredibly eager – we are all excited. I’m doing my best to convey this excitement to ITV and encourage everyone to tune in.
In simple terms, Patrick Harbinson, the executive producer, mentioned that he had started penning down the initial episode of “The Tower” as a demonstration to ITV, proving that they were prepared to begin production.

In “The Tower,” Detective Whelan’s partner, Lizzie Adama (played by Tahirah Sharif), along with colleagues PC Steve Bradshaw (Jimmy Akingbola) and DI Kieran Shaw (Emmett J Scanlan), join him in their police work.
Last August, the series received approval for its third season, titled “Gallowstree Lane“. This new season is a continuation of the events that took place in the second season, known as “Death Message“.
Gallowstree Lane is centered around a significant narrative involving drugs and gangs, with the characters of Jimmy and Emmett playing pivotal roles, as Harbinson mentioned previously.
Sarah and Lizzie also possess compelling and emotionally stirring narratives, rounding off the dramatic arc of Portland Tower. I am convinced that series three will surpass all its predecessors in quality.
The Tower is available to watch on ITVX.
