NASCAR Cup Series: Major loss confirmed for Fox in 2025
As a seasoned NASCAR enthusiast with decades of watching the roar of engines and cheering for my favorite drivers under my belt, I can’t help but feel a mix of excitement and curiosity about the upcoming changes in broadcast partnerships. The new $7.7 billion deal spanning 2025 to 2031 is quite the game-changer!
The final race of the 2024 NASCAR Cup Series at Phoenix Raceway marked the conclusion of a decade-long media rights contract between NASCAR and Fox/NBC. Commencing in 2025, a fresh $7.7 billion deal will be implemented.
The agreement lasts for seven years, extending until the year 2031, and encompasses not just Fox and NBC, but also Amazon Prime Video and TNT Sports in its scope.
Of course, with two new collaborators joining, it meant that the existing partners needed to make certain adjustments or compromises.
As a dedicated racing fan, I noticed that Fox’s race broadcast schedule has been adjusted this year. Originally, we were set to watch 18 races, split between Fox and Fox Sports 1. However, the number of races has been reduced to just 14 (previously 16 regular season points races). On the other hand, NBC’s schedule also experienced a change. Initially, they were scheduled to broadcast 20 races across NBC and USA Network. But now, their lineup has been trimmed down to 14 races as well.
Both networks lost one signature event that ultimately went to the newcomers.
It’s worth noting that Fox will continue to hold the rights for the opening event of the season, the Daytona 500, at the Daytona International Speedway. However, they have relinquished the rights to another prestigious race.
On May 25th, the Coca-Cola 600 race at Charlotte Motor Speedway will kick off the initial season of Amazon Prime Video’s partnership as a broadcaster for the NASCAR Cup Series, having moved to its new broadcasting home.
Amazon’s allotted calendar includes the NASCAR events at Nashville Superspeedway, Michigan International Speedway, and Pocono Raceway, along with a fresh race at Autodromo Hermanos Rodriguez.
TNT will air five events as part of their schedule, which happen to be the inaugural in-season tournament’s five races. Following this, NBC is scheduled to broadcast the remaining four races of the regular season, as well as the entire 4-round, 10-race postseason.
Although the Busch Light Clash at Bowman Gray Stadium on February 2, 2025 kicks off the NASCAR Cup Series calendar, the season will officially commence with the 67th annual Daytona 500 at Daytona International Speedway on February 16. Coverage will be live on Fox, starting at 2:30 p.m. Eastern Time.
