Alec Baldwin says Americans are ‘uninformed’ and ‘know little or nothing’ about world issues at Torino festival

As an ardent admirer, I can’t help but echo the sentiments expressed by Alec Baldwin during his appearance at the 42nd Torino Film Festival in Turin, Italy on Monday. He suggested that many Americans are not as well-informed as they could be.

During a recent press conference, the 66-year-old actor from Rust criticized the American perspective, claiming that many Americans have limited or no knowledge about global affairs.

In a recent clip shared by The Hollywood Reporter, I found myself expressing that there seems to be a significant lack of knowledge or insight, an emptiness, if you will, regarding some crucial facts for the American public.

People from the United States generally seem to be less knowledgeable about global events and issues such as climate change and the situation in Ukraine, often showing interest in only small amounts of information about these subjects.

At the press conference, he made an appearance under the stipulation that no inquiries concerning the tragic Rust shooting incident, involving the late cinematographer Halyna Hutchins, were allowed, as reported by The Hollywood Reporter.

The manufacturing of Rust halted following an incident on October 21, 2021, where a prop gun used by the lead actress in Still Alice accidentally discharged, leading to the death of the film’s cinematographer, Halyna, and injuring director Joel Souza.

At the conference, they inquired about his expectations and worries regarding the Trump administration, to which he replied that there are numerous hurdles ahead.

The Golden Globe Award winner listed ‘the environment, the problem of plastic, of permafrost’ as ‘real problems to solve.’

Afterward, he highlighted the importance of relying on cleaner energy options such as solar power. Yet, he contends that it might not be feasible to entirely phase out oil and gas usage, particularly in regards to emergency vehicles which must always be prepared for immediate action.

In another part of the conference, he was queried regarding the significance of female directors. The actor responded by expressing his view that it’s beneficial, indeed, to see more women directing movies today.

He adds, ‘Of course, for some films you need an energetic director who moves the camera continuously and maybe a male director is better: But for a comedy or a drama with a lot of talk, what’s the difference between a male director and a female director?’

In Turin, the actor was seen giving his most confident performance yet while being photographed, all while dealing with speculation about him attempting to revive his career following the tragic shooting incident that took place in 2021.

The star gracefully donned a suit comprising charcoal grey pants and a navy blazer, both coordinated with a striped tie featuring shades of grey and navy, as he received the Lifetime Stella della Mole award in recognition of his acting career.

He went solo for his appearance at the festival, following claims he is using his family to rebuild his reputation through their new reality show.

In the process of shooting the movie “Rust,” it appears that an authentic live bullet found its way into the old-fashioned Colt revolver handled by actor Alec.

42-year-old Hutchins was showing him the correct way to handle the firearm before it accidentally discharged, striking her in the chest and causing her death.

Immediately following his statement, the actor from The Boss Baby expressed deep sorrow but avoided accepting accountability. Instead, he was acquitted of involuntary manslaughter due to a technicality in the case.

Despite Alec being overseas for award ceremonies, he didn’t attend the heartfelt premiere of Rust in Poland.

At the event, the injured director and companions of the deceased cinematographer Halyna came together to pay tribute to her.

I had the privilege of attending the debut of the film at the EnergaCAMERIMAGE Film Festival in Toruń, Poland, on a Wednesday, unfortunately, without the presence of Alec.

It’s believed that the event organizers chose not to invite the actor, as they were concerned his star power might outshine the debut of the movie.

Even after more than three years since the shooting incident, the seasoned Hollywood actor continues to remain in the limelight.

Instead, he is in the throes of a multi-pronged attempt to relaunch his career.

He recently secured a spot on the renowned U.S. comedy series Saturday Night Live. Additionally, he stars in a reality television program that includes him, his wife Hilaria (age 40), and their seven children. Moreover, he is soon to be honored with a ‘Lifetime Achievement’ award in the cinematic field.

And the actor is forging forth with his new reality show despite the ongoing fall out.

Filming for The Baldwins’ show started on a cable network, TLC, earlier this year, prior to any manslaughter accusations against him.

The trailer hints at portraying the turbulent dynamics of a large family residing in their New York house, as well as capturing scenes of them preparing meals outdoors in The Hamptons.

Alec Baldwin and his spouse Hilaria are blessed with daughters Ilaria Catalina Irena (2 years old), María Lucía Victoria (3 years old), Carmen Gabriela (11 years old), sons Eduardo ‘Edu’ Pao Lucas (4 years old), Romeo Alejandro David (6 years old), Leonardo Ángel Charles (7 years old), and Rafael Thomas (9 years old).

He is also father to daughter Ireland Baldwin, 29, with ex-wife Kim Basinger, 70.
