HBO’s The Pitt Loses Major Star for Season 3 After Casting Shakeup

There’s been some cast changes on the popular HBO medical drama as Season 2 nears its conclusion. A key original cast member will be leaving the show, but another established actor is taking on a more significant role.

According to reports, Supriya Ganesh, who plays Dr. Samira Mohan on The Pitt, will be leaving the show after Season 2. This decision is based on the story, as Dr. Mohan’s character is at a turning point in her career with her residency coming to an end. Because The Pitt is set in a teaching hospital, it’s natural for characters to come and go as part of the storyline.

Dr. Samira Mohan Is Clocking Out

Okay, so I’m really excited to hear that Ayesha Harris is getting a bigger role! Her character, Dr. Parker Ellis, was great in The Pitt – she popped up in four episodes in the first season and came back for more in season two. It’s cool to see her being promoted to a series regular. It’s a bit sad to see Tracy Ifeachor gone after season one, but so far, that seems to be the only major cast change for season three, which is good news!

In addition to the main cast, The Pitt features Noah Wyle as Dr. Robby Robinavitch, a senior physician; Patrick Ball as Dr. Frank Langdon, a senior resident; Katherine LaNasa as Dana Evans, the charge nurse; Fiona Dourif as Dr. Cassie McKay, a third-year resident; Taylor Dearden as Dr. Mel King, also a third-year resident; Isa Briones as Dr. Trinity Santos, a second-year resident; Gerran Howell as intern Dr. Dennis Whitaker; and Shabana Azeez as medical student Victoria Javadi.

The Pitt Will Return for Season 3

R. Scott Gemmill created the series, which is set in the emergency room of Pittsburgh Trauma Medical Center. Each episode unfolds live, mirroring a single 15-hour shift, across both seasons. The first season ended with the hospital struggling to cope after a mass shooting, and the second season takes place ten months later, during a busy Fourth of July weekend. While details are still emerging, Season 3 is anticipated to continue the same real-time, single-shift format.

HBO was confident about the show’s future and officially renewed The Pitt for a third season before the second season even aired. This early renewal was intended to allow production to start quickly, with HBO aiming to release a new season every year as long as the show continues.

HBO CEO Casey Bloys recently explained to Variety that they have a team capable of producing 15 episodes of a show, and importantly, of continuing it yearly. He believes this consistent, annual return is something television has lost in recent years.
