Clown in a Cornfield movie sets early 2025 release date

As a horror enthusiast with over three decades of spine-tingling experiences under my belt, I can hardly contain my excitement for the upcoming cinematic adventure: Frendo the Clown! Having grown up on a steady diet of slasher flicks and terrifying tales, I’ve seen my fair share of creepy clowns, but none quite as menacing as this cornfield-dwelling terror.

Get ready, folks! Frendo the Clown will be gracing big screens not too far from you in the near future! According to Deadline’s exclusive report, Shudder and RLJE Films have secured the distribution rights for the movie adaptation of Adam Cesare’s acclaimed horror novel “Clown in a Cornfield,” which won a Bram Stoker Award. The film is slated to hit theaters on May 9, 2025.

Through Shudder’s participation, it’s reasonable to expect this movie to stream on their premier horror platform eventually. Notably, Eli Craig, famed for his work on the cherished cult classic “Tucker & Dale vs. Evil“, is at the helm as director.

Currently, a chilling trilogy of novels titled “Clown in a Cornfield” is based in the fictional midwestern town of Kettle Springs. In the initial novel, teenage Quinn and her father relocate to this peaceful town in pursuit of a new beginning, only to find that the local corn syrup factory’s fire has left the residents struggling. As tensions escalate, a horrifying figure named Frendo, a clown, emerges amongst them, causing havoc and taking lives. The second book was unveiled in 2022, while the latest installment, “Clown in a Cornfield 3: The Church of Frendo“, was made available this past August.

In a new take, Katie Douglas, who stars in Ginny & Georgia, takes on the main character of Quinn. Alongside her are actors like Will Sasso, Kevin Durand, and Carson MacCormac. The movie has been given an R rating due to its graphic horror violence, hinting that it will be as thrilling as the book.

Craig publicly announced on Instagram, expressing gratitude towards the team who assisted him in creating his newest horror movie. He also acknowledged Cesare’s book as one that seemed perfect for transforming into an intense, gory spectacle within the horror genre.

Clown horror is all the rage

Clown characters that instill fear have been prevalent in various forms of media for quite some time, achieving significant recognition through Stephen King’s It, where Tim Curry portrayed Pennywise the Dancing Clown. However, homicidal clowns appear across numerous horror productions, including iconic ones like Killer Klowns from Outer Space and recent successes such as Damien Leone’s Terrifier series starring David Howard Thornton as Art the Clown.

Additionally, you’ll find Bill Skarsgard reprising his chilling role as Pennywise in the updated version of “It”. This coming year on HBO, he’ll appear in the prequel series titled “Welcome to Derry“. So, when the movie “Clown in a Cornfield ” with its terrifying villain Frendo releases in theaters in 2025, it will share the spotlight with some impressive company.

Clown in a Cornfield will be released in theaters May 9, 2025.
