From recap, season 3 episode 10: A major character bites the dust in this season's final hour

As a seasoned gamer with a knack for unraveling complex narratives, I must say that the latest episode of From has left me utterly bewildered and captivated all at once! The twists and turns are as intricate as the winding tunnels beneath this cursed town.

In the thrilling second half of the season 3 finale for From, I found myself right where we left off, with the search party scattering to locate Fatima. The suspense from last week’s episode lingered as Ellis started suspecting Elgin due to his peculiar ramblings. Without a moment’s pause, I rushed to share my concerns with my father and Kenny, hinting that Elgin could potentially have more information than he was willing to disclose about Fatima.

In light of concerns that Elgin may be under the influence of auditory or visual hallucinations, prompting him to abduct Fatima, Boyd enlists Sara for aid. Given her unique experience of hearing voices herself and performing actions at the behest of these voices, she could potentially assist in reaching out to Elgin and making him understand that they are deceiving him.

As I made my way back home, Tabitha was in a state of distress after our harrowing encounter in the root cellar. We decided to have some tea and let her collect herself. In the process, she shared her eerie experience, feeling an uncanny connection to Miranda. Feeling compelled, I ventured into town to seek out Jade, offering a sincere apology for my previous behavior towards him and humbly asking for his aid in supporting my wife. As we spoke, it crossed my mind that perhaps the souls of the deceased might linger around this mysterious town until they find a new vessel to inhabit.

At Colony House, the situation becomes ominous as Boyd and Donna begin probing Elgin about Fatima’s whereabouts. However, Elgin remains silent, convinced that the mysterious kimono woman or the voices he hears will ensure their departure once Fatima delivers her baby. Despite their efforts to reason with him, Elgin remains steadfast, leaving Boyd with no other recourse but to resort to torture. Not even the spectral presence of Father Khatri can deter him from his desperate search for Fatima. Boyd orders Kenny, Sarah, and Donna to stay outside while he engages in a private conversation with Elgin, hoping to avoid any interference.

Yet, Elgin remains tough-minded, refusing to yield even after Boyd hammers his hand. Matters worsen when Acosta arrives, forcefully entering the bedroom. Under the circumstances, it’s understandable that she reacts sharply, insisting on an explanation from everyone about how this situation escalated to such a point. Boyd leads them all out of the room, where they engage in heated discussions about their course of action and the moral implications of using this interrogation technique.

In quiet solitude, I sneak into the room, finding myself alone with Elgin. Given my unique shared history, I am the sole individual who understands the depths to which Boyd might have to push Elgin to get him to speak. I can’t bear the thought of subjecting Boyd to that kind of emotional turmoil, a pain I’ve already endured from taking lives in the past.

We don’t see what Sarah does to Elgin, but when everyone downstairs hears him scream they rush back to the room and find him bleeding, Sarah having driven a screwdriver through one of his eyes. But she did find out where Fatima is.

By the point when Kenny, Ellis, and Boyd reach the underground storage area, it is too past due to halt what’s now in progress. Instead, Fatima delivers some sort of peculiar bloody sac, which the kimono lady lowers into the opening hatch. It seems that during her time with this woman, Fatima has discovered that the residents of this town used to offer children as sacrifices to gain immortality, making these creatures their enemies. Boyd instructs Ellis and Kenny to care for Fatima and escort her back home.

I step into the hatch on my own, feeling the chill of the underground tunnels seep through my bones – these are the monstrous lairs where nightmares dwell. My heart races as the sack unfurls, unveiling a chilling sight: the rebirth of Smiley, a creature that defies permanent death. Many of us had predicted Fatima would spawn a monster, and it seems our “slaying” of Smiley before was just a prelude to this ritual they’d been preparing for years.

Meanwhile, Jade, Tabitha, and Jim collaborate to solve the enigma of the bottle tree messages. It strikes Jim that these numbers and sequences are connected to musical notes. The three then opt to perform this tune on one of the town’s old violins, preferring to do it in secrecy outside of town, since they’re wary of any potential mishaps. After all, this town has a way of turning everything sour, and given Boyd’s encounter with that malevolent music box, who can predict the consequences when they play that song?

As Jade plays her music, the Anghkooey kids emerge from the forest and make their way towards them. Memories flood Tabitha and Jade, prompting Tabitha to verify to Jim that she is indeed Miranda, and that Jade embodies Christopher in a new form. Their original selves were in this town at the start, when the immortality ritual initiated. They had a child together back then, who was among the seven sacrificed during the ritual. This is why they keep reappearing or being reborn – to continually attempt saving the children but always falling short.

If you found the situation strange so far, it’s about to get even more unusual… Just as Jim steps aside for a moment to collect his thoughts, a woman resembling Julie dashes out of the woods in pursuit. However, this woman isn’t your typical Julie – she sports a drastically shorter hairstyle compared to our familiar Julie.

Previously in the show, Julie queries Ethan about whether she could travel back in time to alter their history. Ethan agrees she can return, but warns her against changing events. However, it appears she defied this warning. In a panic, Julie dashes out of the woods towards her father at the exact moment a menacing figure in a yellow suit appears. This enigmatic character warns Jim that his wife shouldn’t have ventured into that hole, before brutally attacking him, leaving Jim’s throat torn out. A shocked and horrified Julie is powerless to prevent this grisly scene unfolding before her eyes.

It’s plausible that Julie had foreknowledge of the upcoming events, perhaps even attempting a time-travel maneuver to prevent them. And boy, what an episode – it was packed with unexpected turns!
