As a die-hard fan of Jay Leno, every news about him feels like a personal victory. The man is nothing short of a legend, and his resilience is truly inspiring. I remember staying up late as a kid to catch his monologue on The Tonight Show, laughing until my sides hurt at his jokes.

On Sunday, Jay Leno returned to his longtime base, Burbank, California – the city that bore witness to his hosting of The Tonight Show for over two decades – and attended a comedy event there.

Over a fortnight following his fall down a hill, which he claimed occurred after a performance at Greenhouse in Pennsylvania’s Palace Theatre on November 15th, the 74-year-old celebrity was still visibly dealing with significant injuries.

After the incident where he claims to have fallen a staggering 60 feet, Leno, who was the host of NBC’s The Tonight Show from 1992 until 2014, continued to display significant swelling on his left cheek.

The famous comedian wore a navy jacket over a light-blue shirt, both paired with blue denims and black footwear.

On a cold afternoon in Southern California, Leno was spotted making his way towards his car in a parking garage.

From the Burbank studios, where NBC had been headquartered until 2014, Johnny Leno recorded The Tonight Show. This marked its return to New York City after a span of about four decades.

Over the past few weeks following the incident, Leno has been spotted in various public places, including the Burbank In-N-Out Burger on a recent Thursday.

Last Friday, Leno held an amfAR event at the Wynn Las Vegas. On the red carpet, he expressed that he was in a positive mood during his recovery from the accidental fall, mentioning, “I have a fractured wrist, but I’m doing fine.

Last week, Leno mentioned to TMZ that he sustained an injury by attempting to find a quick route to a restaurant situated at the foot of a hill, as it was rather troublesome to reach directly.

The classic car lover stated that he didn’t own a vehicle during that period, as he preferred not to make the 1.5-kilometer stroll to the restaurant instead.

I commented, ‘The slope doesn’t appear too steep, roughly 60-70 feet high. Let me try to make my way down the hill.’

At that moment, Leno remarked, “I tumbled down, thud, thud, thud! I collided with a stone on the way, got a whack on the eye.

Despite the accident, Leno bravely carried on, hosting his show the next day at the Yaamava Theater in Highland, California.

Leno has been known for living solely off the earnings from his comedy gigs, claiming that not a penny from his income earned while hosting The Tonight Show has ever been spent.

In an interview with CNBC in 2016, he mentioned that he’s always had more than one source of income throughout his career. This goes back to when he was working at a car dealership before he became famous in the entertainment industry.

He stated that he would set aside some earnings from his job at the car dealership, while he’d splurge with the income he earned through comedy.

As my comedy career began gaining some recognition, the income I earned became significantly greater than what I made at the car dealership. So, I chose to save the excess and continue spending the car dealership earnings.

Leno explained that when he replaced Johnny Carson on The Tonight Show, he carried on with the same approach, and at one time, his salary reached $30 million per year.

Speaking about taking over The Tonight Show, Leno mentioned that he consistently performed approximately 150 shows annually to ensure he wouldn’t need to tap into the main fund. He also emphasized that he has never personally used any of his earnings from The Tonight Show – not a single dime at any point.

He explained of his mentality: ‘I put my money in a hammock and say, “You relax. I’m going to go work.” And when I come back, I put some more money in the pile.’
