Zayn Malik pays tribute to his ‘brother’ Liam Payne as he performs for the first time since One Direction star’s death
As a dedicated fan who has followed Zayn Malik’s journey since One Direction, I can say that his tribute to Liam Payne during his recent concert was both heartfelt and touching. The pain of losing a fellow bandmate is something I believe only those who have been in the same situation can truly understand.
On Saturday, Zayn Malik honored his friend Liam Payne in a heartfelt tribute during his first performance back on stage since the passing of their former bandmate.
The singer, 31, who rescheduled some concert dates in the wake of his tragic passing, performed at Leeds 02 Academy as part of his Stairway To The Sky tour.
On October 16, Liam tragically passed away following a fall from a third-story balcony at an Argentinian hotel. His former bandmates from One Direction gathered publicly for the first time in nine years to mourn him at his funeral, which took place on Wednesday.
At the weekend’s show, Zayn Malik positioned himself before a display that said “Liam Payne 1993-2024. Love you buddy,” accompanied by a red heart.
The message, which has been widely shared on social media, left the crowd in tears.
Initially scheduled to start in San Francisco on October 23, his first solo tour has been rescheduled within the U.S. to January, while an Edinburgh performance originally planned for the same day as Liam’s funeral has been shifted to December 8.
I, a dedicated fanboy, couldn’t contain my excitement as the four members of my beloved band – Harry Styles, Niall Horan, Louis Tomlinson, and Zayn – each made their individual entrances to the church for a heartfelt farewell ceremony.
At the funeral, Harry donned black attire and arrived in a BMW, whereas Niall came accompanied by his partner Amelia Woolley; Zayn Malik followed closely behind, eventually making an appearance, not long after Louis.
Back in August 2015, Zayn Malik became the initial member to leave One Direction, explaining his departure as a result of ‘stress’. This decision followed his withdrawal from their world tour. The band eventually confirmed their disbandment in January 2016, leaving millions of fans worldwide heartsick.
Last week, it was disclosed that the performances he had planned for the following week in Edinburgh needed to be moved due to some unexpected events.
Through his tour management’s social media channels, a poster was shared announcing new dates for the concert. The caption stated that due to unexpected events, the Zayn “Stairway To The Sky” Edinburgh show initially planned for November 20th has been moved to December 8th instead.
The event initially scheduled for November 21st at O2 Academy Edinburgh has been postponed to December 9th. Your tickets for the initial shows will still be valid for the new date.
Although some fans were displeased with the announcement, numerous individuals expressed their worries about Zayn’s wellness on social media, sending encouraging messages urging him to focus on his mental health. This assumption arose due to speculation that the delay might be linked to his ongoing grieving process for Liam.
“We care for you deeply, Zayn Malik. Feel free to take as much time as you require, because our support for you remains unwavering.
@ZaynMalik, I’m incredibly proud of your decision to prioritize your mental well-being. Please don’t stress about us; we’ll stand by and wait for as long as you need. Take all the time you require. We understand how you feel, and you’re not alone in this. We grieve together, and our love for you remains unwavering, Zayn.
‘Zayn, we are always on your side, take all the time you need; sending all my love to zayn, stay strong z ❤️; @zaynmalik take care, please’.
Without a doubt, Zayn is entitled to postpone the tour to whatever distance suits him best given his recent loss of a friend. Whether he chooses to perform or not, we should always show him respect. Primarily, his emotional health matters most, and those who care for him will comprehend this need.
I truly wish Zayn is alright, sending him love; let’s be understanding if Zayn pushes back on scheduling additional dates. He deserves the space he needs to mourn, no matter how long it takes.
After Liam tragically passed away at the age of 31 following a fall from the third floor of his hotel balcony in Buenos Aires recently, Zayn decided to delay the upcoming shows on his tour in the United States.
Considering the deeply sad events that unfolded this past week, I have chosen to delay the upcoming U.S. segment of the STAIRWAY TO THE SKY Tour.
‘The dates are being rescheduled for January and I’ll post them as soon as it’s all set in the next few days. Your tickets will remain valid for the new dates. Love you all and thank you for your understanding.’
As a die-hard fan, I can hardly contain my excitement! I’ll be living every moment of his UK tour, starting with Leeds, then Manchester, London, Wolverhampton, and finally Newcastle. And let’s not forget the much-anticipated rescheduled dates in Edinburgh! This is going to be an unforgettable journey!
In a forthcoming performance, he’ll be playing tracks from his recently-released album titled “Room Under the Stairs,” which he penned during the last six years in rural Pennsylvania. This album hit the shelves back in May and made its entry at the third position on the UK Albums Chart upon release.
Previously, a U.S. music producer who had worked with Zayn shared with The Daily Mail that the singer was deeply saddened and heartbroken by the unexpected death of Liam.
At the present time, they mentioned that his family members prefer he isn’t isolated, so they’re ensuring he has company of his friends instead.
