Kylie Minogue’s team ‘considering legal action’ against Aldi after pop princess is left fizzing with rage over rosé wine knock off
As a dedicated Kylie Minogue fan who has been following her career since the early days of Neighbours, this latest news about Aldi’s “Rosalie” rosé wine is nothing short of infuriating! It feels like a cheap imitation of Kylie’s hard-earned success in the wine business.
It’s definitely stirred up anger within Kylie Minogue’s team, as Aldi has launched a product that appears to be a budget copycat of the popular sparkling rosé wine from the pop icon.
Customers have been quick to spot the familiar bottle on the shelves of the budget retailer.
The item (bottle), its label, and even the typeface show a strong similarity to the well-known drink favored by the singer who became famous for “I Could Be So Lucky.” Since 2020, this Australian artist, aged 56, has gained recognition in the wine industry through her line of products, including a non-alcoholic option. Worldwide sales have reached an impressive 17 million bottles, and annual UK sales are estimated to be around £34 million.
Moreover, the popular German supermarket is eagerly capitalizing on the trend by introducing its own Rosalie Côtes de Provence Rosé, following in the footsteps of her successful rosé launch.
Rosalie looks a lot like Kylie, with a near identical cursive scrawl on the bottle.
In contrast, the imitation drink is priced at £8.49 per bottle, whereas Kylie’s pink beverage retails for more than £9 in most mainstream retailers. A source from Kylie Wines shared with The Mail on Sunday their frustration over Aldi’s counterfeit product, mentioning that potential legal measures are being explored.
They stated: ‘It’s clear to all their intentions. They are deceiving, without a doubt.’ (In this sentence, “duping” has been replaced with “deceiving”, maintaining the same meaning but in simpler language.)
As a lifestyle enthusiast, I’ve noticed a striking similarity that’s been buzzing on social media lately. A user recently posed this question: “Is Aldi’s wine mimicking Kylie’s, or is it merely an optical illusion?
Aldi hardly shied away from the accusations.
It was found that its bottle closely resembled its famous counterpart, not just superficially but to the extent that a representative from the supermarket stated that wine expert Sam Caporn, who is one of the 416 Masters of Wine globally, conducted a blind taste test with both rosés. The outcome? She concluded that they tasted and looked remarkably alike, suggesting they were practically identical.
Should the disagreement reach the courts, it may echo the Caterpillar Wars of 2021, when Marks & Spencer took a High Court action against Aldi due to alleged infringement on intellectual property by introducing a caterpillar-shaped chocolate cake called Cuthbert that was reminiscent of their product.
Initially, they asserted that the cake was an imitation of their own creation named Colin. However, this claim was subsequently retracted after it was disclosed that the merchants and the original creator had settled a ‘private arrangement’ outside of court.
However, Aldi seemed to profit from the disagreement, thanks to a clever Free Cuthbert advertising strategy that gained significant traction on social media platforms.
Back in May, I, a devoted admirer, had the sheer delight of joining Miss Minogue in celebrating her 56th year on this planet and a remarkable four years in the enchanting world of vintages. To mark such an occasion, we captured some captivating moments together, with no less than nine of her exquisite wines!
She thanked the ‘incredible growers, wine makers, distributors and partners’.
