Formula 1: 2024 Las Vegas qualifying updates, full starting lineup

As a die-hard Formula 1 fan with decades of racing under my belt, I can confidently say that the Las Vegas Grand Prix has quickly become one of my favorite races on the calendar. The thrill of high-speed action on the streets of Sin City is unmatched, and the fact that it’s under the lights only adds to the excitement.

Last season, Formula 1 finally came back to the bustling streets of Las Vegas, Nevada, holding a race at the brand-new Las Vegas Strip Circuit. This was an exciting return, as it marked the first Saturday night race since almost four decades ago.

This year’s Las Vegas Grand Prix, set to take place on a 3.8-mile, 14-turn temporary street circuit, is slated for the third Saturday night event (local time) in the historic 24-race calendar of the 2024 Formula 1 season.

In last year’s race, victory wasn’t achieved by starting from the pole position, and it was rare for Red Bull’s Max Verstappen not to have a dominating performance. Nevertheless, Verstappen managed to come out on top even though he started alongside Charles Leclerc of Ferrari on the front row. However, Leclerc’s puzzling late-race strategy decision from the pit wall ended up being detrimental.

Contrary to expectations of a less thrilling race due to its tight city layout, the Las Vegas Grand Prix turned out to be one of the most exhilarating races of the year, with the lead being switched among three drivers no fewer than six times. In fact, only the United States Grand Prix at Circuit of the Americas had more lead changes in 2023.
