We finally know where Monsters, Inc. Land is going at Hollywood Studios, and not everyone is happy

As a long-time Disney enthusiast and someone who grew up watching the Muppets, I find myself grappling with mixed emotions about the recent changes at Disney’s Hollywood Studios. On one hand, I’m excited about the prospect of a new Monsters, Inc. land; on the other, I can’t help but feel a twinge of sadness as I bid farewell to Muppets Courtyard and MuppetVision 3D.

Previously this year, Disney unveiled intentions to incorporate a fresh territory based on Pixar Animation Studios’ Monsters, Inc. into Disney’s Hollywood Studios at Walt Disney World Resort. Although this news generated enthusiasm, it also sparked some reservations since the concept sketches suggested that a cherished section of the park might be redeveloped.

Today, those fears were validated as Disney revealed that Monsters Inc. Land will in fact replace the Muppets Courtyard, which implies that the run of MuppetVision 3D may be nearing its conclusion.

It seems that Disney may have anticipated some negative reactions from Muppets enthusiasts when they announced that the Muppets would be taking over the Rock ‘n’ Roller Coaster. However, even this groundbreaking announcement of the first Disney ride featuring The Muppets failed to pacify fans who were displeased about the closure of Muppets Courtyard and MuppetsVision 3D.

Even the most ardent Muppet enthusiasts acknowledge that “MuppetsVision 3D” isn’t one of the top-rated attractions at Hollywood Studios. It’s antiquated, and its production value is noticeably outdated. It doesn’t hold much excitement for children, particularly younger ones who might not be as acquainted with The Muppets as older generations.

Many criticisms highlight the historical significance of MuppetVision 3D, as it was Jim Henson’s last project before he passed away. Unfortunately, Disney has decided to take it down.

As a devoted fan, I can’t help but feel a pang of sadness as social media buzzes with fellow enthusiasts expressing dismay over Disney’s choice to part ways with a significant chunk of Muppets history. Although The Muppets are embarking on a new journey and settling into a fresh attraction, it just doesn’t seem quite the same.

Another criticism is the fact that Disney isn’t adding anything to the park. They are removing one attraction — albeit a boring one that draws little crowd — just to replace it with another.

There’s no doubt a Monsters, Inc. suspended thrill ride will be more popular with the average park goer, but removing classics doesn’t typically sit well with Disney purists. It never has, and it never will.
