Major line-up changes ahead for ABC Melbourne radio in 2025 as media veteran Brigitte Duclos joins on-air team after Sammy J's shock exit

As a dedicated fan of ABC 774 Melbourne, I am absolutely thrilled about the major shake-up that’s coming our way in 2025! After 30 years in commercial radio and television, Brigitte Duclos is finally joining the ABC family, and I can hardly wait to see her shine in the afternoons slot. With her extensive experience and charisma, she’ll undoubtedly bring a fresh perspective to the airwaves.

ABC 774 Melbourne has announced a major shake-up of its on-air talent for 2025.

Longtime media figure Brigitte Duclos is now taking over the afternoon time slot previously held by Trevor Chappell.

Starting a new role next year, it marks a 60-year-old’s debut in a prominent position at ABC, following three decades of experience in commercial radio, with stints at stations like Triple M, Mix, and Gold.

Duclos also worked in television as a presenter at Channel Seven and Channel 10.

Currently, Chappell, aged 63, has transferred to the NightShift segment, a role he previously held for two decades from 2003 to 2023.

The show is currently hosted by Michael Pavlich and Rod Quinn

Funnyman Charlie Pickering is also part of the new line-up for ABC 774 Melbourne next year.

The comedian is all ready to debut a fresh, one-hour weekly music and comedy series airing every Friday, titled “Thank Goodness it’s Friday.

Furthermore, the changes will assign weekend morning shows to Jacinta Parsons and Brian Nankervis.

In 2025, Alice Zaslavsky’s breakfast show will be assumed by Nankervis, and Parsons will replace Matt Preston as the host of Victorian Saturday Mornings. Preston has decided to step down from his hosting role.

Ever since beloved radio host Sammy J shared his departure from ABC Radio Melbourne earlier this month, I’ve been left with a void in my daily routine that only his captivating voice could fill.

As your trusted lifestyle guide, Sammy J here, I’m sharing some exciting news with you all. After an incredible journey hosting the ABC Radio Melbourne Breakfast show for years, even through the challenging times of the pandemic, I’ve decided it’s time to move on. My heart is filled with nothing but pride and deep gratitude for the memories we’ve created together.

Sammy J, or Samuel Jonathan McMillan as he’s known, expressed that hosting the Melbourne Breakfast turned out to be a delightful surprise, he hadn’t anticipated it would bring so much pleasure.

However, radio requires your full dedication and deserves no less, and after five years, I’m prepared to exchange my 4:15 am alarm for a more standard work schedule.

I depart with a sense of honor, appreciation, and numerous instances of pay-for-positive-coverage situations that shall come to light at an appropriate time.

ABC Radio Melbourne’s Acting Manager, Shelley Hadfield, stated that Sammy J has left a significant impression on listeners.

‘Sammy has asked the questions we never knew we wanted answered,’ Ms Hadfield said.

He has interrogated both the Prime Minister and the Premier, announced the Queen’s demise to Melbourne residents, and conversed with musicians, illusionists, butchers, and mathematicians.

However, Sammy’s ability to connect deeply with his audience is what truly sets him apart during his tenure at 774. A simple glance at the audience arriving early for his outdoor broadcasts demonstrates the profound effect he has on people’s lives.

On December 13th is Sammy J’s final broadcast; further details regarding the schedule for ABC Radio Melbourne in 2025 are anticipated within the coming week.

Sammy recently left, a move that occurred only a few months following his offensive remark towards Kyle Sandilands and Jackie ‘O’ Henderson from KIIS FM. The incident happened when the trio faced setbacks in the Melbourne market in August.

In this month’s listener poll, the morning radio team came in fifth place, whereas Sammy J saw an increase in viewership for his ABC early-morning program.

Previously this month, it was revealed that the new morning crew for ABC Melbourne 774 will consist of former AFL Western Bulldogs coach Robert Murphy and television journalist Sharnelle Vella.
