Elden Ring is FromSoftware’s most successful and highly-regarded open-world RPG. After the release of the Shadow of the Erdtree expansion, players wondered if any more official downloadable content would be created. However, with the new direction taken by Elden Ring: Nightreign, it now seems less likely that further DLC for Elden Ring will be released.
Good news for Elden Ring players! FromSoftware has announced new downloadable content (DLC) is planned for release in 2026, though they haven’t announced a specific date yet (according to a post on X).
Elden Ring Is Getting Brand-New Content
Fans of Elden Ring have something to look forward to this year! A new DLC, Elden Ring: Tarnished Edition, is on the way. Though primarily designed to let Nintendo Switch players enjoy the original game and the Shadow of the Erdtree DLC, it will also introduce new weapons, armor, Torrent skins, and other content available as downloadable updates for everyone else.
Over a year ago, FromSoftware announced plans for extra content in a tweet, but the translation sparked a lot of discussion among players online. The tweet suggested the content would be sold as downloadable content (DLC), however, some believe the translation is inaccurate and that the DLC will be free to claim when the Tarnished Edition is released.
As a big fan, I’m keeping my fingers crossed for more content, but it doesn’t sound like we’ll get it unless it’s a really big addition – something on the scale of the ‘Shadow of the Erdtree’ DLC. Plus, with the ‘Tarnished Edition’ already delayed a bunch of times, it looks like we might be waiting a while before anything new actually comes out. There’s no firm release date for that yet, which is a little frustrating, honestly!
As a huge Elden Ring fan, I’ve been following news about the Tarnished Edition closely. It’s been a bit of a rollercoaster, honestly! We were originally hoping to see it in 2025, but it turns out getting it running smoothly on the Switch 2 was trickier than expected. FromSoftware decided it needed more time, so now it’s looking like a 2026 release. It’s disappointing to wait longer, but I’d rather they take the time to get it right!
Fans on Reddit are starting to worry that Elden Ring might not be released this year. This concern stems from the lack of any recent news from FromSoftware and speculation that the game is facing optimization issues for the upcoming Switch 2 console.
It’s understandable that fans are eager for news about the future of Elden Ring and the upcoming Tarnished Edition. However, FromSoftware taking their time to polish the DLC and make sure the game runs well on the Switch 2 is likely a positive thing, ensuring a high-quality experience when it finally launches.
