Wicked Part Two release date is revealed as fans say they will ‘never be the same’ after watching the emotional blockbuster
As someone who has spent countless hours immersed in the world of film and music, I must say that this production of Wicked has truly captured my heart. The performances by Ariana Grande and Cynthia Erivo are nothing short of breathtaking. Their portrayal of Glinda and Elphaba, respectively, is a testament to their raw talent and dedication to their craft.
The release date for Wicked Part Two has been revealed as November 21, 2025.
In just under a year’s time, the follow-up to the hit movie that originally featured Cythia Erivo and Ariana Grande is set for release.
The release date was confirmed by the official Wicked Movie X account.
The two-part feature is adapted from the long-running and much-loved Broadway and West End musical.
Initial responses from movie-watchers have generally been favorable, as numerous viewers expressed that the movie left them emotional, even to the point of shedding tears. They’ve shared their sentiment that watching it has profoundly impacted them and will alter their perspective permanently.
Discussing the movie with X, spectators expressed their feelings as follows: ‘The film left me in tears’, or ‘I can’t move on from the portrayal of Cynthia and Ariana’.
“This left a deep impact on me.” (Suggesting emotional distress or change.)
In the meantime, many critic reviews are already coming out, and generally, they appreciate the actors in main roles for their performances.
Yet while some reviews have branded the film a ‘fabulous spectacle’ others have declared: ‘it doesn’t come close to defying gravity’.
In simpler terms, Peter Bradshaw from The Guardian said that the movie is like being immersed in an intense, candy-coated dream with Cynthia Erivo’s captivating performance at the forefront. It keeps you submerged in a vibrant, oversized M&M play pit for approximately 2 hours and 45 minutes.
In praise of Cynthia, he commented: ‘Erivo’s captivating portrayal of Elphaba had an extraordinary influence on a brilliant ensemble.’
In simpler terms, Brian Viner from The Daily Mail says that it is an impressive sight, best enjoyed on the largest screen available.
He enthusiastically endorsed the casting decision, stating: “Erivo and Grande are simply spot-on and exceptionally captivating.
I admit that I find the melodies in Wicked’s songs somewhat repetitive, yet it’s challenging to envision a more exceptional performance of these songs than what those two deliver. Moreover, Ariana Grande has an authentic knack for comedy, which she effectively uses whenever Glinda playfully flips her lush hair.
‘Yeoh, Bailey and Jeff Goldblum as the Wizard offer splendid support.’
Peter Debruge of Variety commended that unlike many recent musicals which attempted to conceal their musical nature from viewers, Wicked proudly acknowledges its character, much like Elphaba does with her green skin.
‘Turns out such confidence makes all the difference in how they’re perceived.’
Dave Fear from Rolling Stone expressed that when Erivo captures that moment and engraves herself in Oz’s history on a broomstick, it seems as though there’s nowhere else you’d rather be but following her. Not even home, he said. He further noted that Erivo is the one who undeniably transcends gravity.
Simultaneously, The Independent commended Ariana and Cynthia’s performance, however, they criticized the cinematography of the movie as a disappointment in comparison.
Comparing the cinematography to a promotional commercial for vacation rentals, Clarisse Loughrey stated that “Wicked is presented as if we’re being pitched an Airbnb in Mykonos.
Acknowledging Cynthia’s exceptional skill in hitting challenging high notes during “Defying Gravity,” Clarisse also commented that, surprisingly for a long movie and just being the first part of the tale, the film manages to avoid feeling drawn out.
She suggests that ‘For Wicked to avoid fading away under the influence of tradition, it must continue to aim for grander and more radiant ideas.’
In simpler terms, The Telegraph criticized the movie by stating that the main actresses failed to convincingly portray the illusion of weightlessness in this overblown, dull remake of the Wicked Witch of the West’s origin story.
In simpler terms, Robbie Collin states that the selection of actors for the main roles appears inappropriate. He notes that Cynthia’s performance is characterized by a teary seriousness that gives the movie’s emotional scenes a somber, healing tone.
In the meantime, it is noted that while Ariana’s voice suits the role, she appears to miss the overly energetic, polished school vibe that the part calls for. Additionally, throughout the performance, one can’t shake off the feeling that you’re mostly watching a pop star enjoying herself and expanding her resume, rather than being fully immersed in the character.
According to Nicholas Barber at the BBC, this overly prolonged and pompous movie demonstrates that the musical didn’t necessitate being divided into two separate installments.
Although acknowledging the impressive acting by Ariana and Cynthia, he pointed out that even though the movie concludes with the song ‘Defying Gravity’, it’s accurate to state that the production of Wicked fails to truly embody that spirit.
