Dean McCullough's mum reveals if his fear during I'm A Celebrity trials is all an act after Ant McPartlin grows frustrated

As a dedicated follower of I’m A Celebrity Get Me Out Of Here for years now, I must say this season has been quite intriguing. Watching Dean struggle through the trials has taken me back to my own childhood days when I attempted to climb our apple tree without success for what felt like an eternity.

As a die-hard admirer of Dean McCullough, hearing about his Bush Tucker Trials on I’m A Celebrity Get Me Out Of Here has me buzzing! His mum recently shared some insights on her son’s experiences in these trials, following his call on Thursday’s episode.

For several days now, the Radio 1 host, aged 32, has repeatedly been selected by the public for various challenges. However, Ant McPartlin, unable to conceal his annoyance, stepped down yet again following an incident involving a shower of fish innards.

Following his selection once more for the joint participation with fellow camper Danny Jones in this coming Friday’s trial, there have been reflections on Dean’s emotional state. Ann, his mother at the age of 55, shares her perspective on whether his apparent apprehension is sincere or a strategy to attract additional screen time.

She shared with The Mirror, “The challenges have been demanding, but he’s likely feeling remorseful about it. What he needs to keep in mind is to strive for his best and enjoy the process. I am incredibly proud of him. He is adored and we are all rallying behind him.

On Thursday’s broadcast, it became apparent that Ant seemed somewhat frustrated with Dean for not giving his best in the initial two challenges. Therefore, he encouraged Dean to put forth more effort.

Upon reaching his third session in just three days, Ant and Dec explained the guidelines for “Lethal Lab”. They mentioned that he would not only be accompanied but also confronted by creatures such as cockroaches, crickets, mealworms, giant lizards, snakes, and spiders.

During the stern chat, Dean said to Ant: ‘Are you telling me off?’

Viewers wrote on X: ‘Ant is like the head master telling Dean off #ImACeleb’,

However, although her son didn’t manage to bring trophies from camp, Ann believes he possesses the skills needed to triumph in the upcoming competition.

She said: ‘Dean definitely has got what it takes to be king – and queen – of the jungle.’

Ann emphasized that before he ventured into the jungle, she imparted some unique pieces of advice: ‘As his mother, I shared special reminders with him – to remember he is cherished, recall his roots, stay true to himself, avoid profanity, strive hard and enjoy the journey. And to emulate Myleene Klass in the shower. Words fail me at expressing how proud I feel.’

Following a harsh criticism from viewers, Dean found himself under fire after he didn’t manage to secure any stars during his trial with GK Barry on Wednesday night as a radio DJ.

The pair participated in the “Down In The Dumps” challenge, where they were compelled to confront their anxieties, cooperating closely to ensure food provisions for the camp.

Despite not winning any stars on the show, the duo couldn’t hide their disappointment, and Ant wasn’t shy about expressing his feelings during the after-show analysis program, I’m A Celebrity…Uncovered.

Joel Dommett said: ‘Let’s talk briefly about today’s trial,’ before Ant interjected with: ‘Oh god.’

Expressing his frustration, he clarified: “At some point, I became rather irritated as I have an attitude that says ‘If you can’t handle it, move on,’ and yet I still urge you to give it a shot, to simply try.

If the task proves too challenging physically or you struggle, that’s alright, but do give it a shot whenever possible. Regrettably, there were extended periods where effort wasn’t put forth before they eventually began attempting, only to run out of time at the end.

Meanwhile the host also admitted to TopMob: ‘A lot of people appear frustrated at Dean, well as frustrated as I was but I felt I held it together pretty well. We miss Tony Bellew, he would have smashed that trial.’

I’m A Celebrity continues on Friday at 9pm on ITV and ITVX.
