Dragon Quest III HD-2D Remake Producer Would Like to Give Final Fantasy VI the HD-2D Treatment Next
As a seasoned gamer with over three decades of gaming under my belt, I can confidently say that the potential HD-2D remake of Final Fantasy VI is music to my ears. Growing up, I remember the original release of this masterpiece, and it remains one of my all-time favorites in the RPG genre. The pixel art, the storyline, the characters – they’ve all left an indelible mark on me.
Square Enix is considering more games for High Definition 2D remakes, and one highly anticipated title could potentially receive this treatment – we’re talking about Final Fantasy VI. While nothing has been officially confirmed, the idea is certainly exciting!
Masaaki Hayasaka, producer, mentioned during an interview with Inverse that if given the chance to enhance a game with an HD-2D makeover next, it would likely be “Final Fantasy VI.” He shared that “Octopath Traveler,” their first HD-2D title, was inspired by the pixel art of “Final Fantasy VI,” which boasts the highest quality. He’s curious to see how the game they referenced would look when given the HD-2D treatment.
Prior to these developments, Square Enix has planned a High-Definition 2D Remake of Dragon Quest I & II for release in 2025. Although it may take some time before we potentially see a HD-2D remake of Final Fantasy VI, if it indeed materializes, you can experience the original version by enjoying the Final Fantasy I-VI Pixel Remaster collection in the meantime.
