If Star Trek: Enterprise had been allowed to continue for a full seven seasons, it could have created a fantastic crossover event featuring characters from both Star Trek: The Original Series and Star Trek: Deep Space Nine. Unfortunately, the show—starring Scott Bakula—was canceled after only four seasons by UPN. This happened at a time when Star Trek: The Next Generation had set a standard of seven-season runs, creating expectations for future series.
In 1996, to mark the 30th anniversary of Star Trek, an episode of Star Trek: Deep Space Nine cleverly transported Captain Sisko and his crew back in time to the original series. Specifically, season 5’s “Trials and Tribble-ations” placed them within the classic Star Trek episode, “The Trouble With Tribbles.” During this adventure, Sisko had a memorable encounter with Captain Kirk, unknowingly saving him from a dangerous situation involving a Tribble – a fact Kirk never discovered.
At the recent Trek Talks 5 event, which raised over $86,000 for the Hollywood Food Coalition, producers and writers from Star Trek: Enterprise – Brannon Braga, Andre Bormanis, Judith and Garfield Reeves-Stevens, Michael Sussman, and Phyllis Strong – participated in a discussion led by Diana Keng. During the panel, Garfield Reeves-Stevens shared their idea for a seventh season of Enterprise that would have brought together characters and storylines from Star Trek: The Original Series and Star Trek: Deep Space Nine.
We once had an idea for an episode we never formally proposed, but it’s something a lot of fans have also suggested. It would have been a final showdown in the Temporal War, bringing together the crews of the Enterprise, Kirk’s ship, and Sisko’s station all at the K-7 space station.

Judith and Garfield Reeves-Stevens proposed a story where the crew of the NX-01, led by Captain Jonathan Archer, would leap forward a century in time. Simultaneously, Captain Sisko’s team from Deep Space Nine would travel back from the 24th century – all to prevent a scheme connected to the Temporal Cold War storyline in Star Trek: Enterprise.
Brannon Braga, an executive producer on Star Trek: Enterprise, revealed that the show’s creators, including showrunner Manny Coto, had planned to revisit the Temporal Cold War storyline in the fifth season. They intended to ultimately reveal that “Future Guy” was actually Jonathan Archer, but the storyline was abandoned before they could do so.
The idea of the crews from Captain Archer’s Enterprise, Captain Sisko’s DS9, and Captain Kirk’s Original Series all being together on Space Station K-7 is incredibly surprising and disappointing for many fans. To avoid disrupting the Star Trek timeline, Archer’s crew would likely need to remain hidden from Sisko and Kirk’s teams. However, it seems like Enterprise would have found a way to make a meeting between the captains happen.
If Star Trek: Enterprise had continued for a seventh season, it likely would have aired from late 2007 to spring 2008 and concluded in 2008. A proposed storyline from Judith and Garfield Reeves-Stevens involved a Tribble and time traveler-filled Space Station K-7, and fans are left wondering what a potentially classic season it could have been.
