What happened to Cook and Gloria in the Chicago PD season 12 fall finale?

As a die-hard fan of Chicago PD who’s seen more seasons than I care to count, I must say that the fall finale was a heart-wrenching rollercoaster ride. The tension between Gloria and Torres, the undercover cop and his love interest, was palpable from the get-go. But what truly got me were those final moments – when Gloria took a bullet for Torres, leaving us all wondering if our favorite couple would make it out alive.

In the season 12 fall finale of Chicago PD, it was initially about Intelligence retrieving one of their team members. However, things escalated and became far more complex.

Caution: This post contains SPOILERS from the Chicago PD season 12 fall finale

Last time around, my cover as Cook’s ally was exposed. Not long after, Intelligence managed to nab him. Gloria, our driver, booted Cook out of the vehicle, signaling he was no longer welcome at our eatery.

After that, Gloria understood that Torres’ arrival was imminent. She wouldn’t provide Torres with any details regarding the cartel she was associated with. Moreover, she signaled her intent to use whatever evidence she had against Torres, effectively setting the stage for a self-destructive confrontation between them.

Yet, Torres was against the idea of Gloria being imprisoned. Moreover, he didn’t want anything to happen to her that would result in her death, which could have occurred if Torres hadn’t shielded Gloria. It later transpired that when Torres canceled the drug transaction, the cartel leader lost faith in Gloria and ordered her assassination.

Did Gloria make it out alive in the Chicago PD season 12 fall finale?

It’s uncommon for romantic feelings or CIA operatives to survive in their line of work. Yet, there are moments when we hold onto hope. Perhaps this episode gave a glimmer of hope to some viewers. Gloria started to trust Torres and the Intelligence unit, particularly when one of her own team members chose to make a deal and betray her. The only way she could gain some form of freedom was by making a similar choice herself.

Rather than letting the armed cartel member take Torres’ life, Gloria opted to act as Torres had done earlier in the show. She shoved Torres to the ground, preventing a potential tragedy since this time they were not able to escape.

Following the capture of cartel members, Torres turned to find Gloria had been wounded. Notably, there was no exit wound, indicating substantial internal harm. With her coughing up blood, it became evident that the conclusion of the Chicago PD season 12 fall finale would mirror many other CI and romantic storylines in a tragic turn.

In Torres’ embrace, Gloria breathed her last, whispering “We’re kindred spirits.” This sentiment echoed their past discussions about striving for goodness yet constantly falling prey to their vices. It seemed there was no way out for them.

Will Torres and Burgess be arrested in Chicago PD?

In the closing scene of the show, it became clear that Voight was attempting to conceal the intimate connection between Torres and Gloria, but his efforts were in vain. The Deputy Chief, stationed in Voight’s office at the episode’s end, was privy to all the secrets. He understood that Torres had been involved in an illicit relationship, and he was aware that Burgess was also in the know. Moreover, he recognized that Voight had spent two entire days attempting to hide this situation from public view.

It’s clear that he had some prior knowledge on the subject; it won’t be long before we uncover how he came across it all. His understanding seemed almost intuitive, suggesting he wasn’t merely guessing.

Although Voight didn’t openly confess, he also didn’t challenge the allegation. Instead, he turned to Reid and inquired about the man’s intentions. Couldn’t they just apprehend everyone involved?

It seems like Reid is seeking something different. He appears to desire a friendship with Voight, implying that perhaps he’s looking for someone to handle his unsavory tasks. So, one might wonder what situation Intelligence will find themselves in when Chicago PD resumes?
