Jo Martin will be back as the Fugitive Doctor for a new story in the Doctor Who universe. This popular version of the Time Lord first appeared in the main Doctor Who series in 2020 and has made occasional appearances since then.
I’m so excited! It’s official – the actor is coming back to play the part in a new Doctor Who audio series from Big Finish called Rutans vs Sontarans. It’s going to delve into the long-running war between those two iconic enemies, and I can’t wait to hear it!
In a special episode titled Betrayal at the House of Sontar, the Doctor lands on the planet Sontar – home to the warlike Sontarans and the Kaveetch Empire – while being pursued by a shadowy organization known as Division.

According to the show’s description, she’s seeking refuge and will reveal the Time Lords’ secrets if she gets it. However, with all of time and space at risk, it’s unclear if anyone on Sontar can be relied upon.
You can get the special now for £9.99 as a digital download, or for £14.99 which includes a digital download and a collector’s edition CD. The CD is limited to just 1,500 copies.

Martin praised this version of the Doctor, saying, ‘What’s great is her ability to appear anywhere!’ He also enjoyed working on previous audio dramas with Big Finish, noting the consistently high quality of the writing, which he feels is also true of this latest production.
Writing for the Fugitive Doctor is really enjoyable,” said writer John Dorney. “Jo Martin is a fantastic actor, and the time period is exciting because we don’t know much about it yet, which gives us a lot of freedom. It allows us to tell unique stories that wouldn’t fit anywhere else in the Doctor Who universe.

I don’t think this story would have worked as well with any other Doctor. The Kaveetch and the unique details of the Sontarans’ history, as described in The First Sontarans, really created a feeling that this wasn’t a typical Doctor Who episode.
Anthony Howell returns as Meredit Roach, a scientist from Kaveetch, having previously appeared in the 2012 audio story The First Sontarans. This new adventure also stars Abi Harris as Kaveetch Empress Annaz Zachar, Nigel Fairs as General Stahl, and Jonathon Carley in the roles of Vrag and Drammal.
The new series, pitting the Rutans against the Sontarans, will have four parts, and will feature appearances from other Doctors and their companions down the line. The first instalment, coming in May and titled Rendition, will include Michael Troughton playing the Second Doctor, Paul McGann as the Eighth Doctor, and Frazer Hines and Wendy Padbury reprising their roles as Jamie and Zoe.
