Noah Schnapp revealed he’s dating someone new on Instagram, sharing a photo of his boyfriend. This comes three years after he publicly came out as gay.
Noah Schnapp, the 21-year-old actor famous for playing Will Byers on the Netflix show Stranger Things, recently shared a photo on his Instagram story showing him close with an unidentified man.
The photo shows the two people from behind, gazing at the city view while standing on a rooftop.
Schnapp shared a photo with a simple caption: ‘One month of us,’ along with a red heart emoji.
The actor hasn’t revealed who his new boyfriend is. This news comes just over three years after he publicly came out as gay in January 2023.
Schnapp shared on TikTok that he recently came out to his friends and family after being afraid to for 18 years, and their response was simply, ‘We knew.’
In the video, he lip-synced to a woman saying, ‘You have to realize this wasn’t a big deal, it never was. Honestly, we were never meant to be a serious couple.’
The actor also added, ‘I guess I’m more similar to Will Byers than I thought!’
In 2022, Noah Schnapp revealed that his character in Stranger Things is gay and has romantic feelings for his co-star, Mike Wheeler.
The actor previously explained to Variety that the storyline was subtly foreshadowed in the first season. They said it was always a possibility, but viewers weren’t sure if the character was simply maturing at a different pace than his peers.
As he’s matured, his relationship became much more open and undeniable. It’s now completely clear he’s gay and in love with Mike, whereas before, it developed gradually over time.
He also mentioned that it was handled very well, noting how easily a character’s sexuality could be changed abruptly.
In the last season of the popular show, which was released late last year, Noah Schnapp’s character publicly came out as gay.
He responded to criticism of a five-minute scene in the episode ‘The Bridge,’ addressing concerns from viewers who called it overly progressive or inappropriate for the show.
Finn Wolfhard told The Hollywood Reporter that the script was ‘perfect’ and that the scene felt natural and unforced for his character.
My success was due to both the effort I put into preparation and the kindness of my cast.
He also said that rewatching the footage and seeing everyone’s reactions was a really touching and emotional experience.
The actor described reading through the scene with the other cast members for the first time, saying it helped him feel relieved.
Schnapp then gave insight into how he prepared to film the scene.
I looked back at old messages I’d sent when I was coming out, and also scrolled through photos from that period of my life, revisiting when I was first accepting who I am.
The actor explained that it was difficult to remain focused, especially since it was late at night and incredibly tiring.
Schnapp had also opened up about the support he received after coming out as gay in 2023.
He recalled the moment he told his co-star Millie Bobby Brown about his sexuality.
‘I kept trying to do it in person with her, and it was too hard,’ Schnapp told Variety.
I randomly FaceTimed Millie while I was at Party City and just told her, “I’m gay.” She responded with, “Oh, Schnapper! You finally told me!”
The star also explained how his Stranger Things character had helped him to come out.
After I truly accepted that Will was gay, it quickly helped me come to terms with my own identity.
He explained that playing Will helped him accept himself and come to terms with his identity. He believes he might still be hiding his true self if he hadn’t had that role.
Schnapp had been one of the main cast members of Stranger Things since its premiere in 2016.
He told the Los Angeles Times that he’ll always remember the show’s final day and how strangely unreal the last scene felt.
Saying goodbye was really difficult. It felt like a huge part of my life was ending, and I was struggling with a sense of loss and uncertainty, as this had been central to who I was and everything I’d known.
He also shared what he would be interested in doing next in terms of his acting career.
I’m really eager to get back into theater – I enjoyed it a lot when I was younger and would love to revisit that. I’m also open to doing more films, but I don’t have a specific plan. I’m just excited to see what opportunities come up next.
When asked if he’d ever play Will Byers again, the actor said he felt his time with the character was over, and that Will’s story had already been told.
He said he’d likely avoid repeating that situation, but would be very interested in collaborating with the Duffer brothers on a different project in the future.
