Katie Holmes goes makeup-free in NYC ahead of performance of Broadway’s Our Town
As a lifestyle expert with years of experience under my belt, I must say that Katie Holmes is truly embodying the spirit of adaptability and resilience in her current role as Mrs. Webb in Our Town. Her effortless blend of casual chic off-stage attire and transformative on-stage presence showcases her versatility and dedication to her craft.
On the eve of the Broadway play, Our Town, at the Barrymore Theatre in New York City, Katie Holmes was seen making her entrance.
As a lifestyle enthusiast, I am thrilled to be sharing the spotlight with esteemed actors like Jim Parsons from The Big Bang Theory and Zoey Deutch in the eagerly anticipated revival of Thornton Wilder’s Pulitzer Prize-winning play. At 45 years old, I am honored to be part of this extraordinary production.
With a Starbucks takeout coffee and a water bottle in hand, Holmes, eagerly anticipating her reunion with her daughter for Thanksgiving, seemed all set to make an entrance.
She had on a baggy gray denim jacket over a burgundy wool sweater and black T-shirt.
With a burgundy silk maxi skirt and yellow satin ballet shoes, the woman who has one child finished off her ensemble.
Holmes, with no signs of makeup, flashed a smile at bystanders before entering the old theater.
She had long, wavy brown hair that hung loose, and she carried her necessities in a stylish red leather handbag.
Broadway welcomed back Our Town again in October, following several weeks of pre-opening performances which began on September 17.
In a modern take on the 1938 production, this reimagined play showcases a multicultural cast, with Jim Parsons, Zoey Deutch, Ephraim Sykes, Julie Halston, and Michelle Wilson among its talented ensemble.
In a promotional video posted online, Holmes expressed his enthusiasm, stating, “We have an extraordinary, captivating ensemble of performers, and we’ve all been putting in a great deal of effort to bring this production to life. It’s truly exhilarating!
I can hardly contain my excitement as I delve into this captivating tale! Sherlock Holmes, a character I hold dear, takes on an unexpected role – that of Mrs. Webb, the mother to Emily, our protagonist, skillfully portrayed by none other than Emily Deutsch. The legendary Richard Thomas, known for his exceptional work in The Waltons, brings Mr. Webb to life. This unexpected cast combination has me absolutely enthralled!
During a chat with Playbill, Holmes shared insights into his work on the production and the innovative take on the timeless tale.
The former star of Dawson’s Creek mentioned that he didn’t prefer the production to revolve around nostalgia, as indicated by his comments regarding director Kenny Leon.
‘He wanted this to be a play about village life set against the stars, against humanity.’
After her daughter Suri, aged 18, left for college at Carnegie Mellon in Pittsburgh, PA, Holmes found herself living without a family member at home.
She shares the teen with ex-husband Tom Cruise, 62.
During a conversation with Town & Country in August, Katie shared that her daughter was relocating for college education.
The actress beamed with pride, saying, “My daughter makes me so proud! Yes, I’ll certainly feel the distance, but I can’t help but be proud and content.
‘I remember being this age, this time of beginnings.’
Reflecting on self-discovery brings a thrill, and those moments hold a special place in my heart. Recalling them brings joy to my thoughts.
Holmes’ run with Our Town goes through January 19.
