As a lifestyle expert with extensive experience in the entertainment industry, I must say that it’s always fascinating to witness the unique strategies celebrities employ before diving into the jungle of “I’m A Celebrity…Get Me Out Of Here!” Rev. Richard Coles’ approach to weight gain ahead of his stint is quite unconventional yet intriguing. While I wouldn’t recommend this tactic for everyone, it certainly adds an element of suspense and curiosity about how he will fare in the challenging jungle environment, especially when forced to switch to a meager diet of beans and rice.

Reverend Richard Coles admitted that he gained weight due to consuming approximately 5,000 calories per day prior to entering the I’m a Celebrity jungle.

Previously a member of the band Communards, who currently serves as a Church of England cleric, acknowledged that this strategic decision has allowed him to gain more weight, as he may soon need to transition to a simpler diet consisting mainly of beans and rice.

On this week’s episode of I’m A Celebrity, a 62-year-old newcomer is expected to catch the current contestants off guard when he joins the camp on Thursday evening, along with the stunning Maura Higgins from Love Island.

When inquired about his weight loss efforts prior to the performance, Reverend Richard responded: “Before the show, I went on a cruise.

It seems I’ve attempted to reduce the number of calories I consume in preparation, however, it hasn’t had the desired effect.

For the past few days, I’ve been consuming around 5,000 calories daily. Given this, I believe I’ve gained weight as per my measurements from a couple of days ago, and it seems likely that I’ll continue to gain more weight until my next weigh-in.

Indeed, I haven’t carried out that specific action yet. However, I attempted it, driven by the assumption that my body would react to a drastic change from consuming 5000 calories daily to just 500 calories. Fortunately, it seems beneficial, and I anticipate shedding some pounds as a result.

On the seventh day, Reverend Richard will follow in the footsteps of celebrities such as soccer star Coleen Rooney (aged 39), former X-Factor judge Tulisa Contostavlos (aged 36), and boxer Barry McGuigan (aged 32), who will have entered the camp six days earlier.

However, a past participant on Strictly Come Dancing cautioned, ‘I’m generally competitive in trivia games, but if it comes to a rush for a buffet… Back when I was a vicar, they would prevent me from attending the buffet because I would push aside elderly ladies to reach the pork pies.’

When questioned about incorporating his religious beliefs into the jungle, the vicar confessed that he would certainly find it indispensable, particularly during Bushtucker challenges involving great heights, which is his greatest fear.

He said: ‘I actually froze with fear on the stepladder the other day on the second rung up. So that will be scary. But I know that there will be somebody burly with a harness nearby.’

But added: ‘I’m quite relaxed about that [sharing his faith]. I’m not going to go around singing All the Christian Soldiers.’

Following the disclosure by ex-boxing champion Barry McGuigan that he was approached by producers regarding political correctness and what to say during their three-week stint, his entry occurs afterward.

Reverend Richard expressed his apprehensions regarding the potential backlash from a contentious remark he might make, explaining that he has not previously engaged in such a situation. He has dealt with reality shows before, but this is different because it involves four weeks of intense scrutiny. After a while, he mused, it could become effortless to lose one’s bearings, but he speculates there would be legal teams monitoring the discourse closely.

Instead, let me put it this way: To truly experience these activities, immerse yourself completely and aim for the highest level of fun possible.

Previously, the radio host announced that he’d rediscovered love following the death of his spouse, David, who succumbed to alcohol-induced liver failure at the age of 42, six years back.

Following their online encounter, it was disclosed that the Reverend is currently in a relationship with Richard Cant, the celebrated actor from ‘It’s A Sin’. Unfortunately, Richard cannot journey to Australia at the moment as he is engaged in a stage performance this month.

But Rev Richard said: ‘He said it would be great for him to be three weeks without me snoring.’

I’m A Celebrity…Get Me Out Of Here! continues Tuesday at 9pm on ITV1, STV and ITVX
