Skeleton Crew: Jon Watts shares his pitch to Jon Favreau
As a gamer with over two decades of experience under my belt, I must say that the upcoming Star Wars series, “Skeleton Crew,” has piqued my interest immensely. The roundtable discussion with the showrunners and directors was a fascinating glimpse into the creative process behind this exciting new venture.
Star Wars recently held an engaging conversation among the creators behind the upcoming series Skeleton Crew, which features Jon Watts, Christopher Ford, Jake Schreier, Bryce Dallas Howard, and David Lowery discussing various aspects of its production, including collaborating with Jude Law and the show’s young cast members.
At one point during the meeting, Watts talks about the early stages of presenting Skeleton Crew, showcasing an entertaining segment with Jon Favreau. In this scene, Watts shares insights on the process.
On the third Spider-Man, I was shooting with Jon Favreau. We were just talking, and I gave him the very, very quick pitch. And he was like, ‘Would you want me to, like, produce it? Is that cool? It would be like me and Dave Filoni.’ And I was like, ‘Yes, Jon Favreau. That would be great!’
Watt’s contributions to the Marvel Cinematic Universe likely added credibility to his abilities and ideas. Furthermore, Favreau’s extensive involvement in the MCU, serving as an executive producer, director, and actor across numerous projects, means he has had ample exposure to Watt’s work.
Bryce Dallas Howard added to her excitement for the series. She shared how when she was working on Season 3 of The Mandalorian, she began asking around Lucasfilm about the pre-production of Skeleton Crew. She asked the team, “‘Oh my gosh, how is it?’ and they were like, ‘It’s so good!'” She then squealed in excitement, adding, “And so there was already a buzz on campus about it.”
The show titled “Skeleton Crew” narrates the escapade of four young characters: Wim (Ravi Cabot-Conyers), Fern (Ryan Kiera Armstrong), KB (Kyrana Kratter), and Neel (Robert Timothy Smith). In the woods, they discover an ancient spacecraft inhabited by a robot named SM-33 played by Nick Frost. The children embark on a thrilling quest to find their way back home, a place that surprisingly, no one seems to know about. To their advantage, they encounter a Jedi named Jod Na Nawood (Jude Law), who consents to guide them to their parents. However, the journey is fraught with complications as a band of pirates, led by Vane (Marti Matulis) from “The Mandalorian” and Gunter (Jaleel White), follow under the command of their captain Brutus (Fred Tatasciore). These pirates are after the children. The series additionally features Tunde Adebimpe and Kerry Condon as Wim and Fern’s parents, who start to suspect that things at home aren’t as they seem.
Watts concludes, “It’s enjoyable to create something functional even without knowledge of Star Wars, and it remains so if you’re well-versed in Star Wars as well.
