NASCAR: NBC is losing six of their races for the 2025 season

As a longtime NASCAR enthusiast with decades of tailgates and cheering under my belt, I must admit that the 2025 media rights deal has me both excited and a bit wary. On one hand, it’s fantastic to see newcomers like Amazon Prime Video and TNT Sports joining the fray, promising fresh perspectives on our beloved sport.

2 Weekends Ago, the NASCAR Cup Series Championship Race at Phoenix Raceway concluded the 2024 NASCAR Cup Series racing season.

2025 will kick off a fresh, 7-year, $7.7 billion contract for the leading American stock car racing series, which will involve not just existing partners like Fox, NBC, but also Amazon Prime Video and TNT Sports in the deal.

2024’s NASCAR season finale saw six straight playoff races aired on NBC. The broadcast schedule for these events was split between NBC and the NBCUniversal-owned USA Network, covering a total of 20 races. However, the following year, it has been decided to decrease this number to just 14 races.

And NBC’s total itself is set to drop from 10 races all the way down to four.

Despite NBC Sports Network ceasing operations at the end of the 2021 season, USA Network will continue to showcase 10 races in the upcoming year as an alternative channel during NBC’s broadcast schedule.

Instead of starting in mid-June as originally planned, NBC’s broadcasting schedule will commence earlier, around early August. The season will kick off, as scheduled, at Iowa Speedway; however, the race itself has been rescheduled to a later date, approximately a month and a half from its initially announced 2024 slot.

Amazon Prime Video and TNT Sports will each handle five races apiece. Specifically, TNT Sports will broadcast all five races in the mid-season tournament before the changeover to NBC. Fox will kick off the 2024 season, while NBC will continue to cover the remaining four regular season races and the entire postseason consisting of four rounds with a total of ten races.

The specific four races that will air on NBC and the ten events destined for USA Network have been officially disclosed. Notably, NBC takes charge of the regular season finale at Daytona International Speedway as well as the last three races of the playoffs at Talladega Superspeedway, Martinsville Speedway, and Phoenix Raceway. In contrast, USA Network will be responsible for the remaining races in the series.

Instead of NBC, the Chicago Street Course race will shift to an in-season tournament on TNT Sports, happening around early July, marking a significant absence for NBC.

As a die-hard fan, I can share that the number of races for the Fox network will decrease, but it’s only going to be a slight trim of four events. At present, we’re looking at 18 races, including the two exhibition races. However, this figure is about to drop down to 14.

14 events make up the first 12 points races of the regular season, along with the two exhibition races: the preseason Clash at Bowman Gray Stadium and the All-Star Race at North Wilkesboro Speedway.
