Stephen King announces next novel which features the return of Holly Gibney
As a devoted Stephen King fan with over three decades of his chilling tales under my belt, I can hardly contain my excitement for the upcoming release of “Never Flinch”! Having followed Holly Gibney’s journey since her introduction in Mr. Mercedes, I am thrilled to see her reappearance in this new novel.
Renowned master of terror, Stephen King, is set to release another chilling horror novel in the early part of 2025. Entertainment Weekly has provided a sneak peek at this upcoming book, entitled Never Flinch, and even shared an excerpt that offers potential readers a glimpse into what’s to come.
The narrative of “Never Flinch ” weaves multiple plots, one of which centers around a well-known character named Holly Gibney. This character was initially introduced in King’s Mr. Mercedes trilogy and subsequently appeared in The Outsider. Later, she gained her own book titled “Holly.
According to reports, the story Never Flinch focuses on the Buckeye City Police Department following the arrival of a chilling letter from an unknown individual who intends to carry out a murder spree, claiming it’s to make amends for the senseless death of an innocent person. With no other option available, Detective Izzy Jaynes seeks help from Holly Gibney.
In the second tale, we follow a women’s rights advocate who becomes the target of an enraged stalker due to her inspiring rhetoric. Once more, she requires Holly’s aid, this time as a protective bodyguard. The plots eventually intertwine, leading to a breathtaking, spine-tingling conclusion.
Entertainment Weekly features an extract from the novel, comprising the first two chapters narrated by a character named Trig, as he attends an Alcoholics Anonymous gathering. The second chapter hints at a news article about an individual referred to as “Buckeye Brandon,” who appears potentially innocent. It seems that this person could be associated with the enigmatic murderer’s plan to eliminate individuals in penance for someone else’s actions. King has shared the article on his Threads account, as he recently left Twitter. On Threads, he commented on the linked article, hinting that his upcoming book is titled “Never Flinch” and he chose not to disclose this on Twitter.
In 2023, a new book titled Holly was published, following Fairy Tale and Gwendy’s Final Task which were released in 2022. The year 2024 saw no new book from King, but there are exciting releases coming up next year. These include the It prequel series titled Welcome to Derry and The Life of Chuck, both based on King’s earlier works.
Never Flinch will be released wherever books are sold on May 27, 2025.
