There is no episode 9 of The Penguin, but don’t rule out a second season!

As a seasoned gamer of both the small and big screen, I can’t help but feel a pang of disappointment as yet another series with an enigmatic episode count leaves me yearning for more. The Penguin, starring the brilliant Colin Farrell, has been a rollercoaster ride that I eagerly hopped on week after week, despite my initial reservations.

It appears there’s another TV show with an unusual episode count, as it seems that HBO’s “The Penguin” will only have 8 episodes instead of 9. Moreover, the chances of a second season with additional episodes seem slim at this point.

Initially, when the announcement of “The Penguin” series came out, I must admit that I harbored some reservations. Perhaps it was the DCEU burnout talking, but Colin Farrell’s involvement piqued my interest. Known for his exceptional acting skills, I had faith he would embody Oswald “Oz” Cobblepot perfectly. The series further boasts Cristin Milioti, Rhenzy Feliz, Deirdre O’Connell, and Clancy Brown, making it a truly impressive ensemble.

On September 19, The Penguin made its debut on HBO (and Max). Since then, new episodes have been rolled out weekly. The eighth and final episode, titled “A Great or Little Thing,” was directed by Jennifer Getzinger. I won’t give any spoilers about the season 1 finale, but if you haven’t watched it yet, all eight episodes are currently streaming on Max.

The Penguin season 2 could still happen

Regarding a potential second season, here’s our take on the situation. At this moment, no official announcement has been made about a renewal, nor about its cancellation. Yet, in an interview with Total Film Magazine, Michael Fassbender hinted that portraying the iconic villain took a toll “emotionally and physically.” When asked if he’d be open to reprising his role as Oswald Cobblepot, Fassbender expressed some reservations.

I don’t know, man. Don’t get me wrong – I loved it – but it got in on me a little bit. By the end of it, I was [redacted] and moaning to anyone who would listen to me that I [redacted] wanted it to be finished.

It appears as though Farrell may have expressed some exhaustion with the role, mentioning “I have no desire to wear that [redacted] costume and that [redacted] wig again.” However, during the interview, he also mentioned the possibility of reprising his role as Oswald in a year. This suggests that Farrell might need some time off, but his willingness to consider returning for more is certainly encouraging!

Stay tuned! As soon as we learn more details, we’ll update this post!
