Every T1 roster changes heading to 2025
As a seasoned esports analyst and someone who has followed the League of Legends scene closely for years, I must say that the recent roster changes at T1 have been quite intriguing. The decision by Rekkles to leave T1 Academy and pursue a new challenge in the LEC is understandable given his ambition and desire to grow as a player. His emotional message spoke volumes about the struggles he faced adapting to Korea, but also highlighted the immense support he received from T1, a testament to their faith in him.
We recapped all T1 roster changes heading to 2025.
In the mere weeks following their victory at the Worlds 2024 tournament, T1 has once more captured the attention of the League of Legends (LoL) community. This is mainly due to anticipation surrounding their decision about whether they will keep their current roster as World Champions and field them in the 2025 season.
In mid-November 2024, the contracts of four players other than Faker will be ending. Meanwhile, negotiations regarding the future of our coaching team and T1 Academy players are ongoing.
Esports.gg has recapped all T1 roster changes during the preseason leading up to 2025:
- Oner re-signs
- Roach inactive
- Keria re-signs
- Rekkles leaves
Oner re-signs
On November 15th, team T1 declared that Oner has renewed his contract and will remain as their primary jungler for the upcoming two years. As per the League of Legends Global Contract Database, Oner’s original contract was slated to end on November 18, 2024; however, it has now been prolonged until after mid-November 2026 or following the Worlds 2026 tournament.
In a recent development, Oner expressed his joy after renewing his contract with Team T1. He is proud to retain his role as the jungler for the team again. Over the coming two years, he aims to reach new heights and accomplish more significant feats with Team T1.
Apart from his previous remarks, he additionally shared that his future goal with T1 includes securing local victories for the following two years. In other words, having clinched the World Championship title for the last two years, he aspires to add an LCK triumph to his list of accomplishments within the next two years. This way, he aims to create even more enjoyable moments with fans and give his best performances during this period.
Roach inactive
beginning on November 14th, Team T1 disclosed that their coach, known as “Roach,” will be temporarily absent from the team due to his obligation to fulfill military service. Earlier, another T1 coach named “Sky” had also departed in November of 2023 for the same reason.
Instead, let me clarify that Roach plans to take a brief hiatus, but he intends to return eventually. Given that military service in South Korea ranges from 18 months to 24 years, his departure could last until Worlds 2026 at its longest.
Roach shared that he’ll need to take a short break to honor his commitments, expressing sadness as he says goodbye for now. With his extensive background as both a professional player and coach, T1 is the team he’s spent the most time with, and the last two years have been truly remarkable. Working alongside top-tier players, head coaches, coaches, and dedicated staff who consistently offered support has been an unforgettable experience, particularly during our victorious moments.
Initially, Roach became part of Team T1’s top-tier roster from 2019 to 2020. Later, he moved to T1 Academy and competed in LCK CK until 2022. Subsequently, he joined the main team as a coach, working alongside Tom and Sky.
Looking back on my journey from being a player to becoming a coach, it’s incredibly rewarding to have made such a significant impact on the team. This experience has been truly unforgettable for me. To the fans who stood by me throughout my playing years and supported me during my coaching tenure, I can’t express enough how much joy and happiness you’ve brought into my life. Thank you so very much! Our team is thriving now, and I am confident that we will continue to outshine in the future.
Keria re-signs
Although there are rumors that T1’s current roster will remain intact following their recent Worlds triumph, it wasn’t until November 14th that T1 officially announced on platform X that their support player, Keria, would continue with the team for another two years. Initially, both Keria and Oner were set to conclude their contracts in mid-November 2024, according to the League of Legends Global Contract Database. However, following this announcement, Keria’s contract has been extended until sometime after Worlds 2026 or possibly even mid-November 2026.
Keria has renewed his contract with T1 for multiple years, and he’s thrilled to stick with them for the next two years. Since he’s already won Worlds twice at T1, he believes there are still more aspirations to fulfill here, and he thinks T1 is the perfect team to help him reach those goals. So, he promises to deliver even better performances over the next two years, with the encouragement of his supporters. Thank you for your continued support!
Rekkles leaves
On November 13th, it was officially confirmed that Rekkles would be leaving T1 Academy and no longer serving as a substitute for Worlds 2024. Although this news wasn’t entirely unexpected, given Rekkles’ stated aspirations to compete in the top-tier league, his departure is not shocking. Previously, he had expressed his desire to play at a higher level, and T1 has been instrumental in nurturing him towards that goal while assisting him in finding a new team, particularly within the LEC.
In just a short span of time, it became known that Rekkles had found his new team: on November 15, he was unveiled as part of Caedrel’s newly formed group, Los Ratones, together with Thebausffs, Velja, Nemesis, and Crownie.
In a heartfelt post shared on his account X, Rekkles opened up about his emotions, detailing the factors that led to his choice. He plans to reconnect with his loved ones in Sweden for personal mental recuperation and also to further his professional aspirations.
Furthermore, Rekkles expressed his continuous appreciation towards T1, stating, “I will forever be grateful for my time with T1, not just for the knowledge it provided me, but for how it aided in my development as both a player and an individual. Arriving in Korea without prior experience in the role or understanding of the language was difficult, yet T1 still showed faith in me. I want to thank my teammates, coaches, and staff at T1 HQ for their guidance throughout this journey, and to all our fans for their unwavering support. It has been a privilege to represent T1.
