BBC confirms Happy Valley and Ghosts stars for Death in Paradise Christmas special

As a devoted fan of Death in Paradise, I’ve seen it all – from the tropical backdrop to the intricate murder mysteries that keep me guessing until the very end. The announcement of the 2024 Christmas special lineup has sent my heart racing with anticipation!

The BBC has confirmed the guest stars for this year’s Death in Paradise Christmas special.

The 2024 holiday event for the murder mystery play will showcase Jim Howick from “Ghosts”, Angela Griffin known for her role in “Waterloo Road”, Steven Hartley hailing from “Happy Valley”, Marcus Brigstocke starring in “Stupid!”, Elizabeth Carling who appeared in “The Damned United”, Michael Salami, a cast member of “Supacell”, and Dex Lee, an actor on the show “Doctors”.

Not just the new cast members are making their “Death in Paradise” premiere, but this episode also marks the first appearance of former “EastEnders” actor Don Gilet as his latest character, Detective Inspector (DI) Mervin Wilson.

In addition, familiar faces such as Don Warrington, Danny John-Jules, Shantol Jackson, Ginny Holder, and Élizabeth Bourgine will all make a return appearance.

“Mervin Wilson, a resident of London, stirs up controversy when he butts heads with the customs of the island.

However, he swiftly delves deep into a baffling murder case involving his team, which is unlike any other: three individuals, who otherwise have no apparent connection, except for the fact they were all dressed as Santa Claus, and each seemingly killed with the identical weapon at precisely the same moment.

While Mervin grapples with the confounding murder case, his peers find it challenging to adapt to their new superior’s unconventional work approaches.

The Christmas special will lead into the 2025 season, with Gilet’s Mervin. Meanwhile, the newest spin-off Return to Paradise, which is set in Australia, is premiering in the UK in just a few days.

In addition, the spin-off of “Beyond Paradise,” titled “DI Humphrey Goodman’s Journey in Devon,” is currently showing a holiday special during this Christmas season. It will return for its third season next year as well.

This upcoming Christmas, the “Death in Paradise” special will be broadcast on BBC One and available for streaming on iPlayer. The show is set to resume with a brand-new season in early next year.
