My Kitchen Rules star Manu Feildel opens up on his feud with co-star Colin Fassnidge: 'He loves to poke the bear'

As a lifestyle expert with a keen eye for human dynamics and a soft spot for redemption stories, I find myself captivated by the tale of Manu Feildel and Colin Fassnidge. Their journey from social media adversaries to co-hosts on Channel Seven’s My Kitchen Rules is nothing short of intriguing.

They have shared the screen as the co-hosts of Channel Seven’s My Kitchen Rules since 2020.

However, Manu Feildel, aged 50, and Colin Fassnidge, also 51, haven’t had an easy ride throughout their careers as they have engaged in heated exchanges on social media platforms at certain points.

Manu has spoken openly about his conflict with his fellow actor, acknowledging that the issue is now behind them.

On the Big Talk Show podcast hosted by Jess Rowe, Manu revealed that the exchange of harsh remarks started when Colin felt unsatisfied with his meal during a dinner at Manu’s restaurant, Bilson’s, in Sydney.

In 1999, Manu moved from France to Australia and honed his skills in various Australian eateries before assuming the role of head chef at a now-closed Sydney restaurant.

Manu shared with host Jess Rowe that Colin didn’t hesitate to express his dissatisfaction regarding his meal at X, which is now recognized as Twitter.

Manu stated, “He visited Bilson’s restaurant, but he didn’t find his meal satisfying, and at that point in time, we received a rating of two hats.

As a devoted admirer, I can’t help but interpret his words as follows: “It seems he hinted that I resemble a jester, suggesting I return to the land of croissants and find a suitable place to hang my coat, perhaps even mastering the art of French cuisine.

Manu noted that it was Colin who kept stoking the flames on social media, as he enjoys provoking others.

‘We never met each other, we just knew [of] each other,’ Manu said.

‘He loved the social media war. He’s addicted to it. That’s his life, he just loves to poke the bear.’

When Manu learned that Colin would be part of the My Kitchen Rules cast, he couldn’t believe it and found himself at a loss for words.

It seems clear that the producers anticipated their actions, placing a wager on the assumption that the conflict between the two individuals off-camera would result in significantly higher viewership figures.

Manu stated that it marked the start of a confrontation. He believed it was a lopsided battle, with him being the target.

In an exhilarating twist, one fateful day, the creative minds behind Masterchef Australia, my all-time favorite culinary competition, shocked us fans with the announcement: they were adding a new judge – none other than the legendary Colin Fassnidge! Oh, the anticipation was palpable.

‘I said to the producers, “are you kidding me? The guy hates my guts” and they said “we know”.’

Eager to ensure a smooth start, I warmly greeted Colin on his inaugural day at our shoot, embracing him wholeheartedly as an Irish culinary master.

‘I was always so comfortable in my shoes already I’d been there for about eight years,’ he said.

As soon as he entered, I warmly greeted him, saying, “Welcome to MKR!” I also shared with him that when I started here, it was tough for me. But I assured him, “Should you ever require my assistance, please don’t think twice about reaching out.

Manu’s words were exactly what was needed to negotiate a peaceful resolution between them, ultimately leading Colin to offer an apology for his previous actions.

At the close of that productive year, he visited me following the championship event, saying, “I’d like to extend an apology for my unacceptable behavior.” From then on, we developed a strong friendship. (Celebrity Chef)

Colin joined the MKR team in 2013 as a judge in the Kitchen HQ cook off and final rounds.

2020 found me stepping up as a primary judge, joining the dynamic duo of Manu and Pete Evans. Fast forward to 2022, I was back to where it all started – My Kitchen Rules – partnering once again with Curtis Stone and Gary Mehigan in my beloved role.

After the contentious exit of Pete Evans, Colin resumed his role as the primary judge and co-host for the 2023 season of the well-liked reality TV series.

As a lifestyle expert, I recently found myself reflecting with my buddy on our journey of forging a profound friendship from the remnants – a tale we shared on Charlie Albone’s enlightening podcast, That’s How We Grow.

In simpler terms, Colin expressed that he got straight to the point by saying, “I might have used a strong word or two about him on Twitter. I referred to him as a certain unprintable term.

Later on, when Ricky, the creator of MKR, called, I responded, “I prefer to be a true chef rather than a TV chef.

Manu stated that Colin considered TV chefs as “jokers,” and it’s important to note that they weren’t friendly when they initially collaborated.

The pair revealed they got off on the ‘wrong foot’ after Colin took aim at Manu before the show.

Manu mentioned that he and Colin didn’t get off on the right note because, when Manu began working in television, many chefs believed he had compromised his principles.

Colin added: ‘I said he’s sold out.’

Explaining the criticism, Manu said: ‘They said I was no longer a chef, I was a TV celebrity.’
