From recap, season 3 episode 9: The potentially shocking connection between Miranda & Tabitha

As a long-time fan of the supernatural and time-travel genres, I found this week’s episode of Fromville to be absolutely captivating! The revelation that Tabitha might share a connection with Miranda, or perhaps even be her from the future, has opened up a whole new set of questions and theories. It’s reminiscent of shows like Fringe or Timeless where time travel plays a significant role in the narrative.

Major spoilers for From season 3, episode 9, “Revelations: Chapter One”

Tonight marks the penultimate episode of season 3 from the series, as we delve into the opening act of the “Revelations” storyline. This week kicks off chapter one, with the final chapter, or chapter two, airing next week.

Although this episode might not be as revealing as last week’s, it certainly offers a significant hint or theory that some viewers have been speculating since the start of the season. Specifically, we may be witnessing a mind-boggling connection between Miranda and Victor’s mother, who is also Henry’s deceased wife, named Miranda.

Searching for Fatima

In this episode, the pursuit of Fatima formally commences when it becomes clear that she’s truly in peril, although none in the town have figured out yet that it’s due to Elgin imprisoning her in a hidden underground cellar.

Although she threatened to expose Fatima for killing Tillie if Boyd didn’t, Donna finds it difficult to reveal the truth due to her deep affection for Fatima. Fatima is a beacon of light in this gloomy town, cherished by its people and by Donna herself. Instead, they collaborate with Boyd to orchestrate a community-wide search party, dividing everyone into pairs. However, they don’t know where to start their search. Strangely, Sarah begins hearing voices once more. These voices joyfully hint that Fatima has been kidnapped, she’s nearby, and no matter how diligently they search, they won’t find her in time.

While people are looking around, Elgin begins giving Fatima his own blood, hoping it will speed up her labor. He then departs to join the search party, intending to comfort others by assuring them that Fatima is secure. It’s definitely strange. Moreover, I found it odd that no one seemed to investigate the cellar. Isn’t it common knowledge about this part of town?

By herself, Fatima strives to find an exit, eventually discovering a hidden trapdoor on the cellar floor. Yet, she’s unable to open it, and just when she thought she might make a getaway, a spooky woman dressed in a kimono appears and compels her to return to her bed.

Tabitha’s connection to Miranda

Following the events of the previous episode, Victor now feels responsible for his mother’s demise. If he hadn’t shared with her what he had heard the Boy in White telling Christopher near the tree, she would never have ventured to the distant tree. At that time, Victor was just a child. However, no one would truly hold him accountable, but it is something he must learn to accept on his own.

Upon reaching Colony House, Victor creates chaos in his room by discarding all keepsakes out of the window and berating himself for revisiting old memories. Next, he seizes an ax to fell a distant tree. With one mighty blow, the Boy in White appears once more, visibly older now. He cautions Victor against felling the tree, and when Victor mentions his own transformation, the boy reminds him that “everything is transforming now,” hinting at something foreboding.

Next time I encounter Victor, I’ll find him in his underground refuge, lost in memories of the fateful night his mother abandoned him and Eloise there. Not far from this spot, Julie and Tabitha are hanging around Victor’s truck. Suddenly, one of the Anghkooey children appears, drawing Tabitha towards the cellar. Inside, she discovers a distraught Victor, whom she consoles with a comforting hug. This tender gesture sets off a vision in his mind, revealing the grim truth about Miranda’s demise. At last, we uncover what befell her.

After bidding farewell to Victor and Eloise, Miranda ventured into the woods, pursuing the distant tree. En route, she encountered Smiley (the monster who Boyd eventually slayed), who assaulted her. In the current moment, Tabitha is alarmed by the vision (reminiscence?) and bolts from the cellar, evading Victor and Julie as they attempt to soothe her.

Wow, it looks like we’ve stumbled upon a significant twist! It appears as though Julie’s adventure in the ruins has subtly suggested the possibility of time travel (as seen when she tossed the rope to Boyd). Furthermore, throughout the season, there have been numerous hints that Tabitha and Miranda share a profound connection. Might it be possible that Tabitha and Miranda are the same person? If so, how would that fit into the timeline? Or is there another explanation for why Tabitha keeps experiencing such vivid dreams of a woman she’s never encountered before?

A lot of heart-to-heart conversations

This past episode brought some resolution and introduced fresh enigmas to keep us guessing, but next week’s conclusion seems poised for a climax. We witness several emotional exchanges among characters such as Julie and Tabitha, Jim and Ethan, Boyd and Ellis, and even Henry and Jade this time around.

Here’s a quick breakdown of what each pairing discusses:

  • Tabitha and Jim: Jim apologizes for having so many doubts throughout the past few episodes. He admits he hasn’t been at his best and promises to trust in Tabitha moving forward, no matter how wild her dreams and visions might sound.
  • Jim and Ethan: Jim might be a mess, but he earns some good dad points here when he reassures Ethan that Julie’s collapse at the ruins was not his fault.
  • Henry and Jade: Out of everyone in town, Jade is the one that most reminds Henry of Victor, which makes sense when he points out that Jade is often talking to people only he can see (this week it’s Christopher) similar to how his own son is out there trying to make a doll talk. But Jade offers Henry some sound advice. He needs to meet Victor where he is. He can’t “fix” him because he’s not broken. He’s what this town has made him, comparing him to Tarzan being raised in the jungle.
  • Donna and Acosta: As irritating and grating as Acosta can be, she’s also asking the same questions that many of us in the audience have asked. Her delivery needs some work, but she’s not exactly wrong for expressing the doubts and concerns she has with this town. That said, it’s still cathartic to have Donna snap on her and tell her she can’t give her a “tutorial” to the craziness of Fromville right now, but if Acosta helps her find Fatima, she’ll break it all down for her.

The return of Boyd’s Parkinson’s

In this episode, Boyd’s Parkinson’s disease, which had not been mentioned since the show’s initial season, plays a pivotal role, nearly causing Boyd to faint in the woods. Luckily, Ellis is on hand to guide him back to town, where Boyd admits that his condition is advancing more rapidly than expected.

Worried about who would look after everyone if he were unable to move around freely or pass away, Boyd encourages Kenny to agree to step up as protector and assume leadership responsibilities should Boyd no longer be capable. However, Kenny is reluctant to accept the “sheriff” position, but he offers to resume his deputy role instead.

The From season 3 finale of airs next Sunday, November 24 exclusively on MGM+.
