I’m A Celebrity’s Coleen Rooney reveals rare insight into marriage with husband Wayne as she admits ‘it wasn’t love at first sight’
As I delve into the captivating narrative of Coleen Rooney’s life, I find myself deeply moved by her unwavering strength and resilience. The challenges she faces, from juggling family responsibilities to maintaining a long-distance relationship with her husband Wayne, are not for the faint-hearted.
In the premiere of I’m A Celebrity, Colleen Rooney disclosed that her husband, Wayne, was determined to be with her when discussing their relationship.
In her camp, Coleen, aged 38, felt comfortable discussing the topics surrounding their relationships with others.
For 16 years, her marriage with Wayne, who she knew since childhood in Liverpool at age 12, has faced some public controversies.
In 2008, I, his devoted partner, tied the knot with the renowned football icon. However, it wasn’t until our first encounter that I fell head over heels; instead, I recounted that it wasn’t love at first sight for me when I met Wayne.
At the campfire, Coleen conversed with GK Barry, Oti Mabuse, and Jane Moore.
Oti asked: ‘And it was love at first sight?’
Coleen replied: ‘No it was for him, not for me. He fought to get me, yeah.
‘I waited until I’d done my GCSEs and then I went on a date. I was pretty good at school.’
On elaborating more about their initial date at the movie theater, she confessed, ‘We shared our first kiss near the church beforehand.’
In 2008, prior to their grand wedding in the picturesque village of Portofino on the Italian Riviera, Wayne confessed to having liaisons with sex workers when he was caught on surveillance cameras at a secluded brothel in Liverpool.
One was a 48-year-old grandmother known as ‘Auld Slapper’ who wore a rubber catsuit.
Afterward, he was involved in a threesome with Helen Wood and Jenny Thompson at The Lowry Hotel in Manchester during the year 2010.
More recently, in 2017, he got pulled over for driving a vehicle that belonged to real estate agent Laura Simpson from Cheshire, and was found to be above the legal alcohol limit. However, Colleen has remained supportive throughout this incident.
Because of his football obligations, Wayne won’t travel to Australia to meet Coleen as she departs from the famous bridge when her camp ends.
Instead, that duty will fall to the couple’s youngest sons, Kit, 8, and young Cass.
And the reason her elder sons Kai, 15, and 11-year-old Klay won’t make it?
They don’t want to miss football, she says.
Coleen clarifies that each of them was given a choice, but the eldest pair opted to remain at home, continuing their education and playing football.
It seems I previously suggested that they should bring their work when they visit, which unfortunately meant they’d miss some football tournaments. Consequently, they promptly decided to alter their plans.
It’s understandable that I wished everyone could be present, but in a certain light, their choices make sense. They both wisely decided not to miss out on things at home.
‘As soon as the show’s over, I’m back straight away.
It seems like a crucial factor played a role here. I believe it was the lost opportunity to score a goal in soccer (football) that significantly impacted their decision-making, as they were eager not to skip any upcoming competitions.
Prior to venturing into the jungle, Colleen confessed that the pair have grown apart – they barely cross paths these days due to his busy work schedule and family obligations.
Ever since Wayne took charge of the Championship football team, Plymouth Argyle, in May, Colleen mentioned that their time spent together has become quite restricted, and they mainly meet up on Sundays.
After traveling to Australia recently, Coleen expressed to The Mail on Sunday her feelings about the strain the 260-mile gap between them causes, as Wayne spends most of his week in Salcombe, Devon, which is a five-hour drive from their home in Cheshire.
As I was gearing up for my adventure in the heart of the jungle, I savored a delightful family day just this past weekend. We gathered around the table to share a meal together, and then supported our energetic 11-year-old Klay at his football tournament. It was a wonderful way to connect before embarking on my journey.
‘Wayne comes back once a week, sometimes twice, depending on the fixtures,’ Coleen explained.
Typically, he doesn’t work on Sundays, which means he could return home. One advantage of the tournament is that many matches are more conveniently located, being further north and closer to my hometown.
On Saturday night, he’ll return home to us, as long as the boys don’t have any prior plans for Sunday.
‘Time together is limited, more so than ever now because of the travelling and stuff.’
