He added: “I didn’t have any prior experience in dancing, and the moves were incredibly complex, making it hard for me to follow the steps, giving an impression of laziness.
This point wasn’t raised positively. To put it mildly, Nigel seemed displeased with my proposal.
“I recall saying that it wouldn’t be hard to replace you in the band with a man from Stoke-On-Trent who has dark hair, whom we could call Robbie.
It left me with a sense that my spot in the band was always uncertain and unguaranteed. I wasn’t cherished or even well-regarded, and I was just 16 years old.
In response to the statements made, Nigel commented: “I believe we all care for each other deeply, and that’s still true today. He certainly has a sharp mind, doesn’t he? It was my mistake since some of our conversation revolved around storytelling. Robbie excels at it.
It’s extremely rare for someone who achieves such a high degree of fame to emerge unscathed, mentally speaking.
If you combine that with a manager who wasn’t skilled in people management, be it for handling employees effectively or managing emotions, it creates a potentially harmful work environment.
My way of finding safety came in the form of substances and alcohol. I’s become feral lots of coke lots of darkness. Lots of comedowns that were hellish. Complete active addiction.’
Nigel reminisced: ‘He was drinking heavily, socializing, and I believe he might’ve been using some type of drugs, perhaps Ecstasy or similar substances, which isn’t unusual among his peers during a night out. It wasn’t a major concern. I would have noticed if it had gotten serious.’
Robbie said Nigel should have ‘known more’ and done his part to ‘protect him.’
“Robbie is intelligent, and it’s quite witty of him to say, ‘I took drugs because I wasn’t allowed girlfriends in my band, or something like that, that jerk Nigel,’ as his manager retorted.
Robbie went on to say, “Either I’m exceptionally smart or I might have just encountered something that could potentially harm me.
