Angelina Jolie thrills fans as she signs autographs and poses for selfies following Maria screening in New York
As a lifestyle expert with a deep appreciation for cinema and the arts, I must admit that Angelina Jolie‘s performance in Maria is nothing short of extraordinary. Having had the opportunity to witness numerous performances throughout my career, I can confidently say that her portrayal of opera legend Maria Callas truly stands out.
Angelina Jolie thrilled her fans as she promoted her film Maria on Friday night in New York City.
After watching the biopic featuring Maria Callas, played by Jolie, at the theater, she spent around 15 minutes meeting fans, signing memorabilia, and taking photos with them before departing the location.
The 49-year-old Oscar laureate, potentially recognized by several awarding institutions for her acting, exuded elegance in a black ensemble while flashing a charming smile at photographers.
She had her long, golden locks sleekly styled straight, and she wore a tasteful makeup look with a subtle shade of rose on her lips.
Maria’s director was Pablo Larrain, the same person responsible for films like Jackie (2016) and Spencer (2021).
As a diehard fan, I can’t contain my excitement about the stellar cast of Maria alongside Angelina Jolie! The global superstars gracing the screen with her are none other than Pierfrancesco Favino, Alba Rohrwacher, Haluk Bilginer, and Kodi Smit-McPhee. This dream team is sure to deliver an unforgettable performance!
In August, the biopic made its debut at the 81st Venice International Film Festival, vying for the prestigious Golden Lion award.
The movie centers around Maria Callas, often referred to as the world’s most exceptional opera singer, during her final days in 1970s Paris. She grapples with her identity and personal experiences as portrayed in the film. (IMDb summary)
During an interview with The Hollywood Reporter in August, Angelina shared insights into her role as Callas and learning to sing for the movie.
She spent several months honing her singing skills through classes, learning Italian, and refining her voice. After mastering the basics, she continued with various additional practices, just like her. In summary, she was very particular about her training process.
I strongly suggest that most people should enroll in an opera class. After all, it’s a unique experience to express yourself not just vocally, but also physically, giving it everything you’ve got.
Jolie added, ‘I believe it’s an experience we should all have. It’s often unsettling, and it doesn’t usually come our way. Rarely do we encounter situations in life where we are pushed to become our best selves or to fully express our feelings.’
During the challenging filming of a specific scene, the director found himself moved to tears due to Angelina Jolie’s performance.
In an interview with Entertainment Weekly, Larrain shared that the scene we’re talking about was filmed on the final day of production. He deliberately saved it for the very last moment. With around six to eight hours left, he personally handled the camera and stayed quite near to her throughout.
He stated that Angelina needed to sing it forcefully and authentically, revealing her emotions fully. In doing so, he urged her to experience the depth of the feelings and understand the fragility she exhibited during this joyous moment.
I was utterly stunned, even shedding tears, as I witnessed her self-immolation. It seemed to me this tragic act brought a dramatic, almost theatrical conclusion to the film.
The film is set to make a restricted debut at U.S. cinemas starting from November 27, following which it will be available for streaming on Netflix from December 11.
