Universal Orlando announces grand opening of Wicked: The Experience
As a gamer with a heart for nostalgia, I can hardly contain my excitement for the upcoming immersion into the magical world of Oz through Wicked: The Experience at Universal Orlando Resort! Growing up, watching Dorothy’s journey in the 1939 film was like a cherished tradition that brought warmth and wonder to countless childhoods.
On Saturday, November 16, Universal Orlando Resort will offer a journey to the land of Oz as they open their new interactive attraction, Wicked: The Experience. This exciting new offering is set to delight visitors in perfect timing with the upcoming release of the much-awaited movie on November 22.
Yes, I understand. “Wicked” originates from a stage musical, which itself is adapted from a book written by Gregory Maguire. This book was inspired by the storylines and world developed in the books created by L. Frank Baum. Is that clear?
Almost everyone knows the iconic 1939 film, “The Wizard of Oz,” which has been cherished by children for over half a century. Experiencing Dorothy’s adventurous and sometimes rough trip to Oz, only to discover that there’s no place like home, is almost a tradition during childhood.
The movie, along with Baum’s collection of 14 books, creates an uncommon yet exhilarating blend of fantastical elements and chilling incidents (those flying monkeys are absolutely terrifying), making it intriguing for both young audiences and adults alike. On the other hand, McGuire’s quartet of books, including “Wicked” (The Life and Times of the Wicked Witch of the West), “Son of a Witch”, “A Lion Among Men”, and “Out of Oz”, offers a more mature interpretation of Baum’s stories.

2003 saw the Broadway debut of the musical “Wicked,” where Idina Menzel and Kristin Chenoweth took on the characters Elphaba (a clever twist on L. Frank Baum’s name) and Galinda, respectively, and it was a massive hit. In the upcoming movie adaptation, Cynthia Erivo and Ariana Grande will be portraying these roles instead.
Right at the entrance of Universal Studios Florida, you’ll find a yellow brick pathway. Walking along this path will lead you to various settings from the story of Wicked. There, you can explore Shiz University and the Emerald City, and even see authentic prop and costume replicas similar to those seen in the movie.
At that location, you’ll find a vast array of items for sale such as clothing, trinkets, playthings, household items, and numerous other things.
