Aussie men’s netball team break silence after copping backlash for ‘cringe’ viral N Sync performance: ‘Raygun levels of embarrassment’

As a dedicated follower of sports, I must say that the Australian Netball team’s dance routine during the Fast5 tournament in Christchurch last week left me utterly astounded. Having attended my fair share of sporting events, I have seen many teams showcase their unique pre-match rituals and performances to get the crowd pumped up. However, the Kelpies’ dance to NSync’s “Bye Bye Bye” was a sight to behold!

The Australian Netball squad has faced criticism and negativity from spectators following their lively dance performance in Christchurch last week.

The Aussie side, known as the Kelpies, got the crowd on their feet with their smart moves staged to NSync’s Bye Bye Bye.

However, due to an overwhelming influx of negative remarks on social platforms, the team felt it necessary to clarify their reasons behind their performance.

Last Monday, Liam Forcadilla, known as Kelpie, graced The Project with his presence to reveal the tale behind the sensual dance routine.

He said that teams playing at the Fast5 tournament were all expected to perform a dance. 

As a lifestyle aficionado, I must say, the electrifying atmosphere during Fast5 Netball and T20 Cricket is nothing short of spectacular. Occasionally, I can’t help but liken the passionate fans to those who have imbibed in the spirit of the game, if you catch my drift!

‘It’s just a bit of fun that the organisers like us to do pre-match,’ he added.

Every other squad performed a dance, which was quite entertaining. It might not be everyone’s cup of tea, but about half of us really enjoy it.

Forcadilla’s comments come after many fans roasted the performance.

‘This is cringe,’ posted one fan.

‘A big NO!!!!’ replied another.

‘Why does Australia have to constantly embarrass me,’ posted a third.

others swiftly drew comparisons between the dance steps and the renowned Australian breakdancer, Rachel ‘Raygun’ Gunn.

‘That’s Raygun levels of embarrassment. Genuinely shameful and I cannot believe they did it. Hope they got smoked,’ posted one X user.

‘Raygun was their coach,’ said another.

On Twitter one fan moaned: ‘Congratulations, literally no man will ever watch the team play a single game.

Another person commented, “I can’t imagine any boy wanting to play netball with men after this, it’s really unfortunate.

However, there was also fans who thought the Kelpies stole the show.

‘Men’s netball is so iconic. All you haters can buzz off,’ posted one.

‘That was fun! I might even watch netball if they play as fun & good as they dance,’ said another.

To cap the dance off, the Aussies beat South Africa to open their Fast5 with a 42-27 win.

In my experience, Fast5 Netball differs significantly from traditional versions. Instead of nine players per team, it’s reduced to five. The playing time is divided into six-minute quarters instead of the standard 15 minutes. Moreover, it introduces two and three-point shots, adding an exciting twist to the scoring system.

Fast5 netball tournament shares some similarities with the Big Bash in cricket; it’s filled with excitement, showcasing fireworks, vibrant uniforms, upbeat tunes, and synchronized team performances.
