Scott Mills has spoken out for the first time since leaving the BBC. The announcement came earlier this week that he was leaving his Radio 2 show and was no longer working with the BBC, following claims about his behavior.
He was later questioned by police about claims of historical sexual offenses against a boy younger than 16, but the investigation was closed because they couldn’t find enough evidence.
The claims were initially reported by The Mirror. Police confirmed they investigated a man in his 40s regarding allegations spanning from 1997 to 2000, as detailed by BBC News.

In a statement released through his lawyer to The Standard, Mills addressed the recent news that the BBC is no longer using his services, saying it has sparked rumors and speculation.

“In response to this the Metropolitan Police has made a statement, which I confirm relates to me.
In 2016, someone accused me of a past sexual offense. The police investigated, and I fully cooperated with them in 2018.
Police shared evidence with prosecutors, who decided there wasn’t enough proof to file charges.

The statement also notes that because the issue stems from an allegation almost 30 years old and the police closed their investigation seven years ago, the individual hopes the public and media will respect their decision not to discuss it further.
I’m deeply grateful to everyone who has shown me kindness, especially my former coworkers and my wonderful listeners, whom I miss very much.
The BBC announced today, April 1st, that they first learned about the investigation in 2017. However, the presenter was fired after additional details emerged.
Sara Cox will be the new host of the Eurovision coverage, taking over from Graham Norton. However, it’s still unclear who will permanently replace him on his Radio 2 show.
