Adrian Portelli accused of exploiting a legal loophole by giving away prizes worth millions of dollars including all five houses from The Block

As a seasoned observer of the Australian property market and a self-proclaimed connoisseur of the reality television genre, I find myself both intrigued and slightly perplexed by the antics of Adrian Portelli. His latest stunt, the audacious giveaway of an entire resort, is nothing short of extraordinary.

It is alleged that Adrian Portelli took advantage of a specific provision in law to enable his firm to gift away all five properties featured on The Block during its 2024 season.

35-year-old Portelli created history last Sunday evening by purchasing every Block property on Phillip Island for an astounding $15.03 million during the grand finale.

After setting a new auction record, the billionaire shared on Facebook his plans to distribute all the properties from a “resort giveaway” using his LMCT+ corporation.

The newspaper, The Guardian, claims that Portelli and his prize-giving enterprise have taken advantage of a ‘legal gap’ to distribute approximately $70 million in prizes, which includes real estate properties from the Channel Nine reality show on Phillip Island.

The article referenced a video that Portelli had shared online in February, where he stated that during the early stages of LMCT+, an unidentified gaming commission informed him that it was against the law for the company to conduct car raffles.

At a crucial point, he stated in the recording, “Instead of quitting, I was contemplating an unusual idea: If I were to gift the car to one of my customers who purchased the software, wouldn’t it be fascinating if I could reward all those who bought the software with the car?

Approximately ten minutes after, I phoned the gaming commission again and asked, “What would happen if I gifted a car to one of my clients?” To which they replied, “Yes, that’s allowed.

Portelli added that he then stopped using the word ‘raffle’.

‘It’s not a loophole, it’s a legal way to give away a car,’ he said.

According to the report, it’s just non-profit organizations in Australia who can organize lotteries.

In other words, businesses can conduct promotional trades that are governed by state laws, provided they either don’t charge an entrance fee or offer goods or services instead.

LMCT Plus provides a membership program granting discounts on select items from various stores, along with entry into exclusive raffles within its loyalty rewards system.

For The Block giveaway, LMCT+ is offering its members an exciting opportunity: they could potentially win The entire Philip Island Resort, complete with five lavishly decorated homes, or alternatively, they could receive a massive $8 million in tax-free money instead.

The promotion also offers one-off packages, ranging from $10 for one entry to $500 for 500 entries.

The company’s actions are transparent, as confirmed by a representative of the Victorian Gambling and Casino Control Commission (VGCCC), who stated to The Guardian that no investigations into complaints against LMCT+ have led to charges against the company according to Victorian law.

In a similar vein, a representative from the New South Wales Fair Trading Commission, who examined the company in both 2022 and 2023, discovered no instances where LMCT+ had violated any laws.

It has been disclosed that a probe concerning LMCT+ is presently being conducted by the Consumer and Business Services of South Australia.

After setting a new record at the Block auction over the weekend, Portelli unveiled an extensive resort giveaway on their Facebook page.

In a change of leadership at Portelli town, our new mayor is excited to share an extraordinary announcement: ‘We’re giving away a resort! Yes, you heard that right – it’s the first time anywhere in the world!’ This was how Mayor Portelli worded his recent Facebook post.

1 Contest – 1 Reward – The winner will claim the entire vacation resort, or receive an immediate, tax-free $8 million in cash as an alternative! The fun has just begun.

Alongside the announcement, there was a picture showing Portelli standing with one of his luxury vehicles within the newly-acquired Block compound where he now resides.

In a change of leadership at Portelli Town, the new mayor excitedly shares an unprecedented announcement on their Facebook page: ‘LET’S GRANT A UNIQUE RESORT AS A GIFT!’ (Informal language: Let’s give away a one-of-a-kind resort!)

Here’s my take on paraphrasing your sentence in a natural and easy-to-read first-person style:

With the announcement came a picture showing Portelli standing next to one of his luxury vehicles, situated within the Block complex that he recently bought.

He was all smiles as he leaned back against his vehicle holding an LMCT+ banner with a ‘No Vacancy’ sign artfully captured in the image.

The ‘rewards club’ Portelli has made his billions from sees his customers pay for different tiers of membership to receive a number of entries in luxury giveaways.

On prior seasons, Portelli has made headlines with his notable home purchases. Unsurprisingly, he’s adept at transforming Block properties into significant promotional events.

Initially, he garnered attention back in 2022 when he showed up at Omar and Oz’s auction driving a bright yellow Lamborghini, subsequently being referred to as “Mr. Lambo.

In the end, Sharon and Ankur’s house was sold at auction for $4.5 million, a price that initially surpassed by Danny Wallis but ultimately went to Portelli instead.

Following the dismissal of claims that he artificially inflated prices by acting as a sham buyer, Portelli reappeared on the scene in 2023, splurging $12.4 million to acquire three properties.

His firm, LMCT+, often conducts giveaways of properties featured on the show, such as the $5 million property purchased last year that was won by Steph and Gian.

Daily Mail Australia has reached out to  Portelli for comment.
