The surprise hit show Heated Rivalry quickly gained popularity in 2025, becoming a streaming sensation on both Crave in Canada and HBO Max internationally. Due to its success, a musical parody adaptation is coming to the 6th Floor Theater in Chelsea, Manhattan, beginning May 26th and running for eight weeks.
As the title suggests, Heated Rivalry: The Unauthorized Musical Parody is a lighthearted and humorous show. It centers on hockey players Shane Hollander and Ilya Rozanov, whose on-ice competition blossoms into a secret romance. Their feelings are expressed through original songs by Dylan MarcAurele. According to Deadline, the musical doesn’t take itself too seriously and is intended as a parody.
Experience all the emotional highlights from the show, brought to life by a talented Broadway cast who believed they were auditioning for the next season. Featuring a vibrant, upbeat soundtrack, surprising appearances from beloved characters like Rose Landry and even a memorable moment involving Ilya, and a timeline that jumps around quite a bit, audiences are sure to be captivated and exclaim, “…Girl!”
The show is based on the story of Shane Hollander, a promising young man whose fortunes shift dramatically. A press release details his journey from a position of power to a more vulnerable one. Broadway actors Jay Armstrong Johnson will play Ilya, and Jimin Moon will star as Shane.
This musical parody isn’t groundbreaking, but it’s clearly popular. Before becoming a full-fledged stage show, Heated Rivalry: The Unauthorized Musical Parody had eight sold-out concert performances, proving how much audiences enjoyed it. It’s a shame it’s only available in New York City, as many people across the country would likely want to see it. With the second season of Heated Rivalry not arriving until April 2027, fans are eager for something to entertain them in the meantime.
It’s becoming increasingly common for popular movies and TV shows to be adapted for the stage. Disney has been doing this for a long time, starting with the stage version of Beauty and the Beast in 1994. More recently, we’ve seen stage shows based on Harry Potter and the Cursed Child and Stranger Things (The First Shadow), with even more planned. Currently, a Broadway adaptation of the movie Happy Feet is in the works, and a Game of Thrones play called The Mad King will premiere at the Royal Shakespeare Theater in England this summer.
The musical Heated Rivalry wasn’t created with official permission, but if it becomes popular, Crave might take notice and decide to officially support it.
