Say Nothing review: The Hulu series loses its focus many times, but is worth your patience
As a dedicated binge-watcher who has seen her fair share of historical dramas, I must say that “Say Nothing” on Hulu is a captivating yet somewhat confusing tale. Based on Patrick Radden Keefe’s book, this limited series spans four generations and follows the journey of two sisters joining the Irish Republican Army in the 1970s.
As a gaming enthusiast, I just wanted to share that every episode of the gripping historical drama, Hulu’s “Say Nothing,” is now streaming and ready for your screen time! Though it occasionally strays from its main thread, I still believe it’s worth tuning in for this limited series.
The television series “Say Nothing,” penned by Joshua Zetumer, is inspired by Patrick Radden Keefe’s book of the same title. The story unfolds over four generations and revolves around two sisters who become part of the Irish Republican Army during the 1970s. If you haven’t had a chance to watch it on Hulu, don’t worry – this review is spoiler-free!
Which way of consuming streaming content suits you best? Do you relish binge-watching an entire series over a few days or prefer watching fresh episodes every week as they come out? Personally, I’m more into the weekly episode schedule. Unfortunately, all episodes of “Say Nothing” have been released now, so if you don’t want to accidentally learn about what happens next online, it would be best to catch up on them as soon as possible (that’s why I usually wait for new episodes each week). However, I definitely suggest taking some time to watch “Say Nothing” whenever you can.
In this limited series, what truly captivates me is the exceptional acting performance from Lola Petticrew, Maxine Peake, Hazel Doupe, Anthony Boyle, and others. The ensemble cast effectively propels the narrative forward, ensuring that Say Nothing remains intriguing throughout. This isn’t a program you can casually watch; it demands your undivided attention due to its clever and impactful plotline as well as its occasional lack of focus.
Say Nothing attempts to tackle too many aspects simultaneously, which is its major drawback. A more enjoyable journey might have been crafted if it had paced itself and perhaps even cut some extraneous storylines. If it were stretched across two or even three seasons instead of being a limited series, the narrative would have felt less overwhelming and more impactful for viewers. I think this approach could have resonated more with audiences.
This isn’t to say Say Nothing is a series you should skip as it is still very much worth watching. I would just lower my expectations going in. All nine episodes are now streaming on Hulu.
