Antstream Arcade Receives Five PS1 Net Yaroze Curios
As someone who fondly remembers the days of my clumsy forays into game development with the Net Yaroze console, I can’t help but feel a surge of nostalgia upon hearing that Antstream Arcade has added these classic titles to their library. It’s like stepping back in time, only this time without the endless hours of debugging and cursing at my crappy Defender clone.
The retro gaming platform, Antstream Arcade, now offers a variety of games created with the Net Yaroze, a development tool for the old PlayStation 1 console, initially released in 1997, expanding its collection and allowing you to enjoy these classic titles.
At one point, Net Yaroze was a revolutionary tool, providing budding developers an opportunity to design and disseminate their own games, without the need for costly and complex development equipment. In fact, I even managed to create a subpar Defender copycat using it, despite my ineptitude with technical matters.
Indeed, numerous Net Yaroze titles are categorized as ‘forgotten media’, with only a small number of copies remaining in circulation. Antstream Arcade has incorporated several titles into their platform: the puzzle-platformer Time Slip, the block-based puzzler Pushy IIb (originally unreleased commercially), the brick-breaking action game Bouncer 2, the exploration-oriented RPG Adventure Game, and the fast-paced multiplayer mech combat title Arena.
Steve Cottam, our Antstream CEO, expressed his excitement about maintaining and honoring the innovative essence embodied by Net Yaroze games. These unique games, crafted by dedicated developers worldwide, provide a captivating glimpse into the early days of independent gaming. We plan to collaborate further with these talented creators and developers to keep introducing fresh titles on our Antstream platform.
Play the full collection of five Net Yaroze games is possible right now through Antstream Arcade. You can choose to do this by signing up for an annual subscription, which costs $39.99 or £32.99, or you could opt for a one-time payment of $99.99 or £79.99 and get the Lifetime Pass.
