As a lifestyle expert, I find Dev Patel’s resilience and determination truly inspiring. His career journey, marked by breakthrough roles like Slumdog Millionaire and Skins, is a testament to his talent and tenacity. However, it’s his recent experiences during the filming of Monkey Man that have solidified my admiration for him.

In a recent interview, Dev Patel shared that he fractured his hand on the very first day while filming his newest project, “Monkey Man”. He discussed his acting journey publicly on Wednesday.

As a connoisseur of life’s finer aspects, I found myself in an unexpected predicament while working on our latest action flick amidst the global pandemic. In a turn of events, I ended up fracturing my hand, spraining several toes, and tearing some ligaments. Despite these setbacks, I had to push through and complete the filming, demonstrating the resilience that’s often required in our line of work.

During an interview with Vanity Fair, Dev shared that he chartered a private plane to Indonesia to see a physician and receive a hand surgery, as he didn’t want any issues with the movie insurance company due to potential COVID-19 rule violations.

Additionally, he playfully commented that his popular 2000s sitcom “Skins” is similar to an itchy skin condition that refuses to heal, and shared that he maintains contact with a few of his former cast members.

Regarding Monkey Man, he mentioned that he wasn’t exactly like Jackie Chan, but instead, he ended up with fractured hands, some broken toes, and torn ligaments. Our initial major fight scene took place in a bathroom sequence. On the very first or second day of filming that scene, his hand got fractured.

‘I found a doctor online that was putting screws into bones in Jakarta. We managed to get a [medical] jet so that the insurance company wouldn’t red flag it as breaking our [COVID] bubble. I came back to work the next day and we carried on. It was a way to avoid having this cast put on my hand because we wouldn’t be able to afford painting it out.’

In the thriller that received a perfect 100% score from critics on Rotten Tomatoes, Dev was responsible for both directing and creating the role of the character referred to as Kid.

In a natural, easy-to-understand manner, The actor who played the lead in Slumdog Millionaire first appeared on TV in the popular 2007 series Skins. He later expressed that filming was an incredible experience and it paved the way for his career to take off.

In the show, Dev took on the role of Anwar Kharral, where the narrative centered around a diverse range of themes involving a high school group, particularly exploring topics such as drug use, sexual identity, teenage parenthood, eating disorders, and mental health issues.

He said: ‘Well, Keziah…! Skins was like—oh boy, it’s kind of like the little rash that won’t go away. No, no, no. Look, man, it was amazing. I didn’t have a clue what I was doing when I was plucked off of the street to be in that thing.

‘Maintaining connections is essential, and it’s what led to my role in Slumdog, given that Danny Boyle’s daughter was a fan of Skins. All these connections, right up until Monkey Man, served as stepping stones.’

Previously Dev detailed how his success is actually all down to his mother, Anita.

On The Project, it was disclosed that his mother had been the driving force behind his acting career, having discovered an audition notice for acting in the local newspaper and urged him to try out.

He mentioned that there’s a newspaper in the UK titled “Metro.” He tore out an advertisement from it, and I found his action quite peculiar, as if he had suddenly gone insane, he explained.

Reflecting on the past, the esteemed actor acknowledges that he was engrossed in studies when he initially received recognition. However, now as he reminisces, he expresses gratitude towards his mother for motivating him to pursue his aspirations instead.

‘I was doing exams, I was 16, but thank God she did, because you know, it has changed my life’.

Dev cut a dapper figure in a brown suit as he posed for Vanity Fair 31st annual Hollywood Issue.

The actor became a part of an ensemble consisting of 12 top-tier Hollywood stars such as Glen Powell, Zendaya, Nicole Kidman, Zoe Saldaña, Sydney Sweeney, Josh O’Connor, Danielle Deadwyler, Jonathan Bailey, LISA, Ncuti Gatwa, and Bill Skarsgård.
