Grand Theft Auto: The Trilogy Finally Gets Console Patch With Significant Visual Improvements
As a dedicated GTA fan with decades of virtual crime-spree under my belt, I must say this recent update to Grand Theft Auto: The Trilogy – The Definitive Edition has me feeling like a kid on Christmas morning all over again! Three years since its launch and it’s finally living up to the visual promises we were initially promised. It’s as if Rockstar heard our collective sighs of disappointment and decided to deliver something truly exceptional.
For three years now, “Grand Theft Auto: The Trilogy – The Definitive Edition” has been released, during which it’s had multiple updates, including one with over 100 fixes and enhancements. However, only the mobile version of this trilogy has so far managed to meet visual expectations.
It’s great news that Rockstar has unexpectedly released an update for the trilogy (according to IGN), enhancing the appearance of Grand Theft Auto III, Grand Theft Auto: Vice City, and Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas. This update significantly improves lighting effects, shadowing, reflections, and rendering distance, resulting in a much more authentic visual experience compared to the original games.
As a gamer, I’m thrilled about this update that brings back the ‘Classic Lighting’ setting across all three games! This means a visual experience closer to the original games, like seeing the hazy orange tone in GTA: San Andreas once again. Plus, it lets me move and run while holding shotguns and automatic weapons in GTA III and Vice City – a feature that was missing before!
Moreover, there seems to be a return of varying weather conditions in San Andreas, and fresh fire and shattering glass effects have been incorporated as well. Interestingly, the developer’s name, Grove Street Games, has disappeared from the opening credits, suggesting that Rockstar’s internal team is now handling this latest update.
Based on Rockstar Intel, it seems that the patch for this update is only accessible on Xbox Series X|S, PlayStation 5, and PC at the moment. Unfortunately, if you’re playing on Xbox One, PS4, or Nintendo Switch, it appears that the update has not been released on those specific platforms yet.
