Los Angeles radio station KFI-AM (640) gutted by layoffs
As a longtime listener of KFI-AM (640), it’s disheartening to see such drastic changes in the station that I’ve grown fond of over the years. The recent layoffs, reducing the news staff by half, feels like losing a piece of the family that has been part of my daily routine for so long. I remember Chris Little joining KFI-AM (640) as a news anchor back in 1991; he was there when I started tuning in, and now he’s among those who have to say goodbye.
Media company iHeartMedia, known for its radio and podcast work, has let go of 13 staff members from KFI-AM (640) in Los Angeles. This reduces the station’s news team by half.
Chris Little, former news director at KFI-AM (640), disclosed on Tuesday that his team of 25 was cut down to just 12. Chris started working at KFI-AM (640) as a news anchor back in 1991 and advanced to the position of news director in 2000.
One of the station’s current hosts, Tim Conway Jr., addressed the layoffs Monday on air.
Perchance you’ve become aware… many individuals have departed from iHeartMedia, and it’s proving to be a challenging situation,” Conway expressed at the start of his broadcast.
These individuals have been part of my life since I arrived here. At the time I arrived, my little girl was only 3 years old. It’s really tough, though.
In a programming update, Conway warned listeners to expect multiple familiar and unfamiliar voices on the air in the near future. He assured that he would share as much information as he could and encouraged everyone to research the topic further for a better understanding.
Many businesses experience this,” he noted, “People form deep friendships in these environments, often seeing each other daily. However, one realizes that such a close relationship may not last forever.
IHeartMedia has undergone multiple rounds of layoffs at various stations over the past year.
In simpler terms, Bob Pittman, CEO of a significant media organization based in San Antonio, announced job cuts as part of their transition to a more modern way of operating. He emphasized the use of technology to quicken procedures and upgrade outdated systems during a recent earnings call, as reported by Billboard.
