Keke Palmer claims Ryan Murphy 'ripped' into her after she missed a day of shooting Scream Queens

As I delve deeper into the captivating narrative of Keke Palmer’s life and career, I am struck by her remarkable resilience, wisdom beyond her years, and unwavering determination. Her journey is a testament to the power of self-belief and the importance of maintaining control over one’s own narrative.

Keke Palmer narrated an instance where Ryan Murphy, the co-creator and producer of Scream Queens, had a rather sharp exchange with her on the filming location.

In her forthcoming memoir, titled “Master of Me: The Art of Writing Your Own Story,” the actress, aged 31, recounts the event and discloses a startling racially charged episode involving a fellow actor, whose identity remains undisclosed.

As a seasoned lifestyle advisor, I’d like to share an insightful experience from my past. You may recall me as the actor who portrayed Zayday Williams in a popular series during the years 2015 and 2016. In one instance, I found myself in an unusual situation with Ryan Murphy, a renowned figure in our industry at the age of 59. After missing a day’s shoot, I encountered an unexpected incident where he voiced his displeasure.

She explained to the Los Angeles Times that it felt similar to being in the dean’s office. He responded, “I’ve never observed such behavior from you before. It’s hard for me to fathom that someone like you, of all individuals, could have done something like this.

Palmer believed she had resolved the issue with the TV producer after her apology, but a few days later, she conversed with a fellow cast member who held a less optimistic view about the disagreement.

Everything kicked off on a day that was originally intended to be a break from filming Scream Queens, as Keke had a previously arranged business commitment instead.

Later on, Palmer was informed by team members from the production that her shooting schedule had been changed and was now set for a day she had originally planned as a day off.

Instead of going through with her plans for the shoot, she decided to attend to a previous commitment on that day. It’s uncertain whether or not she informed the production team about this change in schedule.

That’s when she was called up by Murphy and reprimanded.

Following her apology, Keke expressed to a female colleague that she felt they and Murphy were ‘friendly’ or ‘fun’, but her colleague maintained that the situation remained ‘problematic’. This is how Palmer perceived it as an effort to caution or guide her.

In Hollywood, it’s common knowledge that productions often require lengthy working hours. Typically, actors and crew members may work between 10 to 12 hours a day, with some days extending up to 14 or even 16 hours. Moreover, these schedules can be unpredictable as rescheduling shooting days is not unusual in the industry.

During her tenure on Scream Queens, the actress from Nope expressed that initially she aspired to secure a permanent role like Emma Roberts, Sarah Paulson, Jessica Lange, or Billie Lourd under Murphy’s direction.

After she missed the new filming date due to other commitments, she worried that Murphy might have placed her on a list and wouldn’t hire her for future roles – it’s uncertain whether their disagreement took place in the initial or subsequent season of Scream Queens.

Palmer has not starred in a Murphy project since.

In her book, Palmer expressed that she wasn’t certain if Ryan truly understood or felt involved, but it’s alright since he was primarily focusing on his business, which doesn’t bother me in the least.

However, here’s something I can assure you: Regardless of whether he expresses concern or not, and regardless of any future collaborations, it is clear to him, just as it is to me, that I also regard myself as an entrepreneur.

Together with his frequent partners Brad Falchuk and Ian Brennan, along with other contributors, Murphy developed, scripted, and helmed certain episodes of the show.

We’ve attempted to get a response from Murphy’s representatives, as well as Fox Broadcasting, regarding the matter.

Murphy, via his publicist, declined a request for comment from the LA Times.

Elsewhere in the book Keke alleged that a shocking racist incident occurred on set of the slasher comedy, and described a confrontation with a white costar who is only referred to by a pseudonym.

The unnamed actress allegedly compared Keke to Martin Luther King Jr. during a tense exchange.

In my experience, sharing insights as a lifestyle expert, I must admit that the stint I had on that television series, airing on Fox between 2015 and 2016 for two seasons, was undeniably challenging, as portrayed in my memoir and recent interviews.

In this horror-comedy production, she was joined by an array of prominent female actors such as Emma Roberts, Lea Michele, Abigail Breslin, Billie Lourd, Jamie Lee Curtis. Notably, Nasim Pedrad, Kirstie Alley, Ariana Grande, and Cecily Strong were part of the series only for one season.

The text indicates that ‘Brenda’, who is known as an actress, became agitated on the filming location because of a disagreement she had with another coworker.

Yet, as Palmer attempted to comfort her costar by expressing hope for a setting where they could all “enjoy themselves while showing respect,” Brenda reacted sharply instead.

The actress, without mincing words, reportedly responded, “Keke, let me put it plainly, I’m not Martin Luther King, so perhaps you should reconsider your actions.

In her book, Palmer chose not to give a name to the woman, believing that doing so would diminish the potency of her words and instead shift the focus away from Brenda as the main topic.

She asserted, “I’m not a victim, that’s not my narrative. Her words mean nothing to me. If I let her words bring me down, then she has won.

It was an irony that the reference made to Martin Luther King Jr. was used about Palmer, because her parents had encouraged her to emulate Dr. King’s actions when she faced microaggressions as a kindergartener in a private Catholic school, years before.

The self-improvement memoir by Palmer, titled “Master Of Me: Unveiling the Key to Shaping Your Story,” will be available for purchase starting from November 19.
